In the last year I've had the opportunity to be a patient and a Doctor. I have frustrations like you do so I came up with my list.

1) Dr X leaves you waiting more than 45 minutes in the room on more than one occasion without an explanation or a quick apology when entering the room "I'm sorry to keep you waiting." Another way to handle …

Back Pain: Should I worry it could be something more serious?

Back pain is the second most common reason for a visit to the physician. By far the most common causes of low back pain are "mechanical" caused by disc degeneration, muscle or ligament strain. Fibromyalgia Information

What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a condition notoriously difficult to diagnose and cope with, and occurs mainly in women. It is characterized by the presence of pain throughout the body, and a heightened pain response to normally non-painful stimuli (called Allodynia). Fibromyalgia sufferers often experience sleep problems and general fatigue.

Causes of Fibromyalgia

The precise cause of fibromyalgia has not been identified. Possible contributors include physical trauma, an acute period of stress, lyme disease, and immune-related conditions like lupus or arthritis. In fact, fibromyalgia is often referred to as an arthritis-related condition.

Treating Fibromyalgia

Anti-depressants, muscle relaxants, and pain medications are routinely prescribed to help sufferers cope with fibromyalgia. Recently, the FDA approved Lyrica, a nerve-pain drug, as a treatment for fibromyalgia. Because the skin may be unusually sensitive, many living with the condition use special mattress covers and wear clothing made from softer fabrics. The most highly-recommended alternative treatments among DailyStrength members are heat and aqua therapy. Finding sources of emotional support, such as group counseling or online forums, can help to relieve feelings of isolation and loneliness.
