was reading the courage to heal workbook that my husband bought home from work for me and apparently sexual arousal while reading or hearing about sexual abuse and violence is a normal response to being abused. I always felt really ashamed and disgusting but mostly terrified when this happened to me, and was suprised and extremely relieved to read this. I feel a little more trustworthy as a person now and am not as worried that i am going to abuse someone. Even though its really embarrassing i just thought i'd post it in case anyone else gets the kind of relief i did from the information.

Know exactly what you're saying Mc, I have these crazy dreams about my abuser and its really confusing when I wake up cuz they are a mix of the comfort that a father-figure gave me and sexual arousal. I don't get it, and I've never heard it like you read it...guess i have some homework to do...thanks for your openness.

very good post.

I think for a lot of us we forget how little control we have over our bodies.

it is normal to be sexually aroused. it took me a long time to realize that i didnt' have that type of control.

I read that book too but I never believed it 'till this post. Thank you, thank you for making me see I'm not the only one; I've been so upset with myself (to put it mildly) for feeling this way.

i get aroused to like that, um ithink because of the abuse, it has opened me to alot of sexual things. wow you really made me feel better bout myself.

wow this is so good, thanks for sharing. I always thought something was wrong with me for getting aroused when I would see violence like what I went through and never understood why. It seems so sick and twisted yet I can't control it and always feel so ashamed. This does help a little thanks

I can so relate to that. Sometimes is just reading about the simplest things like someone getting a hug. It scares me sometimes.

Just starting to read discussions on this site, my "story" so to speak was that I was trying to untangle some suspicions i had, but i can't believe the things I am reading, I still really don't remember anything, but I know exactly what you are feeling. What does that mean?

This is the beauty of this site...so many carry secret shame and think they are all alone in feeling the way they do....then someone has the courage to post and so many benefit from it whether they post a reply or not. I have had that happen....esp when it's close to my own history...and felt shameful because of it. thank you for posting

I don't like having sex with my husband.I am dry all the time. But a few weeks back we casually talked about rapes in films. I teased him that he would never be able to rape me because I was strong. He began to tease me and then tried to enact a rape secene. I was aroused immediately. Now I tease him most of the time to rape me and he does though very gently cause I believe he has understood that I like it. But isn't it bad what I am doing and what I am making my dear husband do?
