Tips that I did that might help... were, when changing the wafer... I would remove the colostomy bag (contents in the toilet, and bag in the trash), and I would slowly peel off the wafer while in the shower. I would remove ALL adhesive that was left over, and I believe there was a cleaner to remove all the residue from the wafer glue.
Making sure I wasn't going to let anything out of the stoma, I would dry myself off, pat dry around my stoma.... get out the blow dryer, dry around the stoma (carefully avoiding contact or heat to my stoma), and then using the Wafer Prep (which prepared your skin for the wafer), THEN... using the stoma glue stuff, carefully spreading ON the wafer, and then applying it around my stomach, and spreading a decent amount (not too thin or too thick) just on the skin around the stomach (for extra protection). Put the wafter on, firmly press and hold... and grab the good old blowdryer again.... and use heat (warm setting), and then cool to make sure the adhesive was given a good amount to stick and dry....
At first the Dr's said I would have to change the wafer every 2 or 3 days... but it was so good, that the most I went was 5 days before the wafer started to get that whittish-watery look around the cut-out hole for you stoma.... Now... I didn't do it every 5 days all the time, just once... wanted to see how long it would last, if it could....
Good luck to all. Hollister was my brand of choice.
Good luck!
