A sign language (also signed language) is a language which uses manual communication, body language and lip patterns instead of sound to convey meaning—simultaneously combining hand shapes, orientation and movement of the hands, arms or body, and facial expressions to express fluidly a speaker's thoughts. more at Wikipedia

Helped when he didn't have any language.
Yes, that's what I am always doing. It's my life. I learned to sign before I learned to talk a little bit.
I have always signed a little, because I used to talk to a little boy in church that was deaf. I was alway amazed by this language and since I became deaf, it has helped me so much, i absolutely love it.

used makaton when he was younger and til he was about 10 as visual cues whilst speaking, good to get him looking and really taking in what i was saying. occassionally can still use it now in certain situations, if we are in a crowd and get separated, i can sign at him and that is very helpful knowing he can understand me.
