(also known as Riluzole)

Riluzole is used to treat patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Riluzole is not a cure for ALS, but it may extend survival in the early stages of the disease, and/or may extend the time until a tracheostomy may be needed.

No side effects ,, not sure how much it is slowing the ALS progression - now 3 1/2 yrs.
I just got checked not better not worse
not really helpful caused my husband not to eat
Muscle twitching has slowed down.
My wife's daughter is trying to separate me from my wife, which has had a really bad effect on my wife. She's lost the will to even try to fight anymore.
treats muscle twitching. It has been helpful.
IN MY DAD'S SITUATION I DONT THINK THIS DRUG HELPED MUCH AT ALL. INSURANCE WILL PAY THE 868/MO. PRICE TAG, BUT I THINK IT WAS MORE OF A MENTAL FIX FOR MY DAD. FATIGUE WAS THE BIGGEST SIDE EFFECT
so far he can still walk with a cane or walker
One side effect of Rilutek is loss of appetite. This wasn't explained to me until I lost 32 lbs within 3 months. I only weighted 175 lbs to begin with. I've since stopped taking the medication for now. To continue, I will have to add another prescription to the list for an appetite enhancer.
no side effects, so far.
Parents are considering, but it is so expensive...Does it help?
Jim used it w/ the hope it would at least slow down the symptoms, but it didn't.
I was put on it when I was first diagnosed with ALS in 1996. It was too expensive and did not help, so I am no longer taking it.
be very careful with rilutek! it progressed my husbands symtoms and when stopped taking it,he felt better.
