General Tojo Yamamoto
March 28, 1997 - October 3, 2008
It was the saddest day of my life. I was the one who made the phone call. Gary and I had a time loading him into the van, taking him to the vet. He could no longer jump up and go “bye-bye” and wag his tail the way he used to. Mobility was a painful effort for him, whether climbing, walking or just simply standing. It was time. But it was as awful as you can imagine. I thought I could be strong enough until the end, but Gary asked that I leave the room because I was wailing so hard.
I know it was the humane thing to do. Memories of him a few years ago running in our back yard, this beautiful, strong, gentle giant is how I want to remember him. It’s weird not to have him under my feet and by my side. He was the best dog in the world.
We later picked up our granddaughter from daycare. She noticed right away when we pulled in the driveway that Tojo wasn’t there to greet us. “Where’s Toji?” she asked. Gary and I just looked at each other. As we made our way into the house, he wasn’t there to walk around and be in the midst of our legs. Again, Moira looked up and down the halls and asked “Where’s Toji?”
“He’s at the doctor,” I replied. “Aw, poor Toji” she said.

Oh dear, I'm so so sorry for your loss. Gentle hugs for you. Much love, too.

As soon as I read the hug and was on my way to your journal I got chills...I knew what you were going to say. How sad:( He was part of your family, and it will take some time for hearts to heal. You gave him a good life though and there was nothing more you could do. I'm sure it's a little too quiet at your house right now and my thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Debby

It's a loss of a family member and you will grieve and you should.
I'm so sorry. I believe we will see our pets again in Heaven, cuz there's no tears there, and we loved those creatures so very much.
My heart aches for you Rhonda. Such a hard thing you had to do!
God bless you!!

Oh Rhonda...my heart goes out to you.....gosh I am in tears for you here....
I know your pain and I'm sooooo sorry...nothing but time will make it easier for you. I know that you don't feel anything can possibly help right now...but you gave that sweet dog love and attention and a good home for many years...and both of you were very lucky to have each other for as long as you did...
Many hugs.....

so sorry...I may have to do that too soon to my big guy. Doing all I can to get him back up and well. Old age is happening to him fast, since a traumatc injury. I hurt everytime I see him. He's 11 and a shepherd wolf. That's pretty old for them. I pray your grief won't be too long. Oh they are hard to give up. love ya, JF

I'm so sorry Rhonda. My "Bud" is 12 and I worry about going through that when I look out the window in the morning and don't see him. I wish Toji could have lived longer for y'all. Our prayers are with you.
