we had a great weekend!! the weather was perfect, we had a great day Sunday and are looking forward to what the week will bring.

Sunday I preached at an assisted living facility (I do that the first Sunday of each month) and there are usually about 15 or so. Today there were 2 at the start and so we met around a table and had a very informal service. After our first hymn one more joined us and by the end of the service another came by.

It really was a wonderful experience we got to talk more than we usually do and when I asked if there was a particular hymn they wanted to sing, one lady piped up and said Joy to the World.

I told her that was the perfect hymn to end our time together, so often people think that Christmas hymns should only be sung at Christmas and I disagree with that. In fact this coming Sunday I'm going to make that our closing hymn and see what my church thinks about it.

Y'all have a great week!

Shout outs to Grace90, Kinzy, Stevenfariss and Chris1981!!

I use to work at a privately owned assisted living home. The people that lived there were/are great!! Go for it! Sing Christmas songs not at Christmas!!! :) I feel the same way! SHOUTING BACK AT YA

That is awesome. My uncle does the same thing, in Independence, Missouri.

My 19 year old daughter anonymously requested that we sing an ocaisional hymn at church last week (as opposed to the newer Christian music), and the worship team leader who is also our youth pastor explained that we would be singing a hymn once in a while, because of a request. The unusual thing about the request he said was that it came from someone in the 18-24 age group. He thought that was cool, and forced him to expand his horizons, and learn some of the old standards, since he wasn't raised in the church, and didn't know that many.

Christmas songs are appropriate any time of year because we're worshiping God and praising him for the greatest gift ever!
    Hugs, Karen

It is easy to see why you are a minister. That is a most beautiful hymn to close, open, or however. Thank you for making this such a fun day. Bless you and Lisa.
