The "he" in that sentence is "me".

Although my ankle feels weak - oddly, actually both of my ankles feel weak - I decided that I had sat on my fat ass long enough and I went for a real run this AM. Surprisingly, it felt good - I was expecting to be tired and out of shape, as I've been eating like complete crap (both in quantity and quality) - but sometimes, I'm just in the right place, and I ran like the wind. OK, I jest - I didn't run like the wind - I ran like a winded, 38-year-old, sweaty guy - but I did 2.4 miles in 21:14, which isn't bad.

My goal remains to get down to sub-20 mins, which I guess is something close to an 8 minute mile. It's not the fastest time, but I think anyone who can run multiple sub-8-minute miles must be in reasonably good shape.

I'd like to get back to the 5 mile run I was doing, but honestly I'm a bit scared...while I think I'm a bit young to stop running because of potential damage to my legs, I do wonder what I'm doing to myself if I really start running 3-4x/week.

Getting old sucks.

cross training is a good way to get in shape but not put too much stress on one particular part of the body. I highly recommend training for a triathlon. It gives you good motivation for training. And lots of old people like us do it because it really is better for your body then just running. I think we should come up with a tri-race we do next year.

I'm 52 this June and I hear old.....lol.....your a baby still...yes you are.......I have a disease called Gaucher, its a Jewish disease and it effects the joints & bones along with alot of other stuff so my running days are over...BUT I'm at the gym now with the other "oldies" and there are non impact machines there that I can run a 7 min mile and feel great...I'm on for 30-40 minutes or so and my cardio work out & calorie burn is top notch...no stress on the joints at all...it's great...I alternate days with weight training, its also helping with fatigue issues and my depression...so as busy as you are make the time to move your fanny, in the long run you will improve your all around health and grow younger as the years pass...words of wisdom here...lol..Hugs, Deb
