47 year old mother of two grown sons. I have two young grandchildren. Going through a DV divorce after 14 year marriage. Husband and I were business partners so now I'm unemployed and an emotional wreck. I hope to find strength through this website and maybe help someone else along the way. I'm a good, decent person and I deserve a happy life.

Close Physical & Emotional Abuse
I wrote my story on here a year ago: June 15th 2007 I learned that my husband of 14 years is having an affair with a business associate. I intercepted a text message of sexual context. When I confronted him he beat me up badly. I still have a bruised sternum and traces of a black eye. Long story short, he's in really big trouble with the state and facing possible felony DV charges. We're in the middle of a nasty divorce. I wish I could fast forward one year and put all of this behind me.
Treatments
- Abuse Counseling Working / Worked
- Counseling has helped me realize that it's not my fault. No one deserves to be abused. I'm learning to respect and love myself.
- DailyStrength Working / Worked
- I check in here every day. It helps to remind me that I'm not alone.
- Divorce Working / Worked
- I filed for divorce this time. He beat me up really bad. This has to stop!
- Group Therapy Working / Worked
- I attend group therapy once a week and it is helping.
- Leave Working / Worked
- I moved in with my son and his wife until my wounds healed enough to go home. I took control of the house and got a restraining order.
- Music Working / Worked
- In group therapy they teach us to listen to soothing music to manage stress and panic attacks. It sure helps.
- Pets Working / Worked
- My cat is a great comfort to me. I pet and cuddle with her when I'm feeling low.
- Psychotherapy Working / Worked
- I'm seeing a DV counselor once every other week. She says I have PTSD, Depression and Anxiety.
- Talking Working / Worked
- Talking to friends and family helps a lot. It gets the facts out in the open and makes it impossible to back step into the abusive relationship.
Close Back Pain
I was born with a congenital back defect, spondylolisthesis. I've had back pain most of my life. It got unbearable in my 40's. Finally went for spinal fusion after years of testing and treatments. It's taken 2-1/2 years post op but my pain is finally,COMPLETELY GONE! Thank GOD!
Treatments
- Bedrest Not Working
- For Spondylolisthesis, I found that staying as active as possible, stretching, staying limber helped more than bed rest.
- Chiropractic Adjustment Not Working
- For my condition, Spondylolisthesis, sometimes hurt more than it helped.
- Cortisone (Injection) Somewhat Helpful
- It worked wonders the first time for Spondylolisthesis. However, it masked the pain and therefore I over did myself and the pain was even worse when it wore off. Subsequent injections did very little to help.
- Flexeril Not Working
- My problem, Spondylolisthesis, was structural rather than muscular so Flexeril had no effect.
- Ibuprofen Working / Worked
- I took 4 Ibuprofen every 4 hours for years. It helped but is hard on your liver.
- Physical Therapy Somewhat Helpful
- Stretching Working / Worked
- Facet Joint Injection Working / Worked
- Horrible experience. 18 injections in my lower spine hitting the nerves between the joints. So tramatic that I had to go home and sleep! It did nothing to relieve my pain.
