    About Me

I work as an engineer in the St. Louis area. I live alone with 2 black cats. One named Samhain (Celtic for Halloween, she also has orange eyes)and the other is named Marlene. I lean to the left politically and love animals (though I still eat some of them, curious.) I am the second of four children but I have the characteristics of a middle child.

    Interests

Reading, staring at the wall, yoga, biking, crosswords, cooking, talking to imaginary people, chess, NPR, finding the perfect coffee, keeping the extraterrestrials in their place, classical music and British comedy. Also antique cars, tacky '50's cuisine and keeping the tobacco lobby in business.

    • Close Bipolar Disorder

I was diagnosed with what was first thought to be "simple" depression in 2001 after fighting feelings of worthlessness and mixed highgs and lows for many years. I can remember being so up in college that I would study for hours and then be unable to get up a week later. Bipolar stared me in the face for most of my life. Thinking back it should have been diagnosed in my teen years at the latest. My "official" bipolar diagnosis came in 2003 after my first hospitalization for suicidal thoughts.

Kept the symptoms at by for 2 years, but still kept me with the roller coaster
      Depakote Somewhat Helpful
Started taking it in early 2006. Stopped in late 2007.

      Treatments
