Journal Entry for August 1, 2007 Mood
Wednesday, August 1, 2007
ok so yesterday we had our son at his speech session, and he just started going to this center about a month and a half ago....however he has had speech therapy at home for over a year and a half.....anyway i asked her, what she thinks the problem could be.....why it is so hard for him to communicate, and she sad she beleives he has childhood apraxia. i have never heard of it so she explained it to me. i am not sure what to think because there has been so many possibles with him.....he has been seeing specialists since he was 1, and they have mentioned aspergers, PDD-NOS,sensory intedragation disorder, and thay have said he does have failure to thrive, gross motor delay, developmental delays mixed expressive receptive language disorder...that part i do not quite understand becasue he understands everyting we say, he just has a very hard time making the words come out.... i just want to get him the help he needs so we are not wasting time at guessing, the therapist at the speech center is wonderful, she explains why she thinks it and what she is hearing when he does manage to get a few words out. i am glad we took him there.

my son sam did not speak a single word until he was 2 and a half years old. not momma, dadda, no pointing or gesturing,he didn't even cry when he was hungry or wet. we took him for hearing tests and developemental testing. when he was 2 and a half we started renting barny vidios and with in a week he had not learned to talk but he had memorised the entire elphabet and could read letters on command. well he speaks fine now. this was as. when we didn't even know what it was. things have a way of working themselves out with time for us.

I hope you get the answers you are looking for. It has taken me 3 1/2 years to get a diagnosis for my son.It is not easy and it can be very frustrating.I have found that preserverance is the only way to get anywhere. If you dont like what someone says or you dont agree get a second opinion. If I listened to the first few people that tested my son I still wouldnt have a diagnosis to this day. Good luck to you and take care. melissa
