To Whom it may concern

I am writing to you in regards of the support which you fund at The Y Centre in .

As it stands at this moment you fund The Y Centre to offer support to those 16 young people who reside in the 8 shared flats within the building. Though this is providing an invaluable service, which has helped so many young people, there are still more young people either in The Y Centre at this time or young people, who will  be coming in, in  the future who need this level of support because they are high risk/ high support.

But due to the rules and criteria’s The Y Centre needs to follow at this time, the only young people who are able to be offered a room in a shared flat within the building are 16 and 17 year olds. This is good as they are getting the level of support they need to move on with their lives and eventually move onto their own place.

My question to you is this: What about the young people who are post 18 and fall into the criteria of high risk/ high support who cant  at this time be offered a room in a shared flat, not because their level of support is not high enough, rather they are too old? Surely all young people who need this level of support should be allowed to access it and it made available to them, regardless of their age and whether they are in a single or shared flat.

So getting to the reason for this letter, I would like to ask you if you would continue funding the work done in The Y Centre because it is helping so many young people and is offering an invaluable service which is very much needed in .

Also I am asking you if you would seriously give some thought to allowing more funds to be released into The Y Centre to support post 18 young people who are high risk/ high support. As in The Y Centre at  this time though a lot of the young people in the single flats are low support, there are a few who are high risk/ high support who really need this service, yet are unable to access it as there are  not the funds available.

I know this because I am one of those who fall within the “too old, but requiring a level of support I can not access at this time”. I am moving closer to putting my life together and becoming productive and independent, but I still require support in certain areas, due to those areas I am moving in a slower pace then would be ideal. Also the keyworker I had has been instrumental in helping me to deal with these areas, come to terms and grow through truly shattering experiences and access outside help in areas I need help in. I also implore you to consider that there are several other young people who are in a similar predicament as I. As the new manager implements mandatory changes, our lives are being discounted and likely lost.

Therefore I am asking you to consider possibly funding a small number of the single flats, so the young people either in the building at this present time or who come into the building in the future who are post 18 and are high risk/ high support can access the level of support they need to move on with their lives.

So in  closing I would like to leave you with a question to ponder on and that is this: If projects like these are not able to offer the support I and other young people need due to insufficient funds, where else can we go to get this level of support?

Yours Sincerely

This is very well written & I am proud of how you put so much thought into it. For editing purposes I would add or alter the last paragraph to make it personal..."Unfortunaely I am one who falls within the 'too old but too ill' category at present. I am so near being able to put my life together & become productive & independent, but health issues including overcoming post traumatic stress syndrome, compulsive behaviours and anorexia (AJ you fill in the blanks) have me moving at a slower pace than would be ideal. Would you please be kind enough to guide me through this rocky set of circumstances. I know that I can make it on my own eventually but have nowhere to turn if I am put out on the street. The keyworker I had has been instrumental in helping me grow past truly shattering experiences. I ask that I might be allowed these critical services for an additional year. I also implore you to consider that there are several individuals at this facility in the same predicament. As the new manager implements mandatory budget cuts, our lives are being discounted and likely lost." How's that for a bit of corporate persuasion? Good job, AJ. You could make a good income clerking in a law office, & think about law school down the road. You would make a wonderful advocate for young people as you know what they're living with. Go for it. Your candles are lit. B
