Dinner with Julie was great. the kids(Hmm, 26 and 24. awfully big kids)and I took her to Brussels Illinois to the old Wittmond Hotel Restaurant. to get there we had to take a ferry from St.Charles across the river to the island Brussels is located on. the ferry crossing was fun and the island was beautiful with lots of working farms, cultivated peach trees, rolling hills and spectacular views of the island and the river.
Dinner at the Wittmond is served family style with soup, a relish tray, fresh cole slaw, rolls, country sausage, roast beef and fried chicken, with mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans and chicken and dumplings, all brought to the table. they also have homemade cobbler and ice cream that can be ordered for dessert. (We arrived late in the afternoon and they had run out of cobbler so we were saved from ourselves.)Groan!!
My 2 redheaded adult children,Rob and Katie, did not even squabble once and seemed to really enjoy the outing and each other's company. A minor miracle!!
After dinner we drove back to the ferry landing and had a drink on the outside deck of the tavern located there. the deck overlooked the river and we sat and watched the boats go by.
We finally boarded the ferry and drove home. All in all a fairly perfect day. I think Julie enjoyed her Mother's Day a lot. I hope everyone else enjoyed theirs too.
Happy Mother's Day,
tom
Wow, when you take your wife out you pull out all the stops. Sounds like a perfect day for all concerned. You take good care of your family. I'm glad you had such a good day.
