Support Groups

 Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
I've been diagnosed with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Treatments
 Art (Somewhat Helpful)
Dabbled in it briefly, so, I'm not sure if it could have been more effective if we'd kept it up. I'd like to try this again.
 Celexa (Not Working)
Combined with Wellbutrin. Although I felt fairly good on this drug, it caused rapid weight gain. When I came off it, the weight came off also.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Too Soon To Tell)
Set to start a nine week "Mindful Cognitive Behavioural Therapy" program. It combines meditation/yoga and CBT. Starts April 24th, 2008
 Inderal (Too Soon To Tell)
I developed some horrible side effects (leg cramps, respiratory problems, extreme fatigue) on a high dose of this drug. I took myself off the drug, but missed the positives (reduces severity of PTSD), so, my doctor and I decided to try it at a lower dose. So far, the major side effect are gone except for fatigue. I'll stay on it for awhile and see if the fatigue passes. I hope so, because the drug itself really does help control many of my PTSD symptoms.
 Music (Working / Worked)
Calms me down.
 Psycho Drama (Somewhat Helpful)
This therapy involves "acting out your pain" in a group setting. I feel that my experience just traumatized me more in the long run. There was a pedophile in the group. I think with the right facilitator and a wiser mix of group members, this could work.
 Psychotherapy (Working / Worked)
I went to my local rape/crisis centre and found the long term support I was looking for. I think working with a woman therapist is making all the difference.
Rape Counseling (Too Soon To Tell)
Dealing with the incest through crisis counselling at rape crisis centre. I will move over to long term counselling eventually.
 Reading (Working / Worked)
Knowledge is power. Reading through "Courage to Heal". Also, "Trauma and Recovery".
 Talking (Working / Worked)
DS has been such a source of comfort and community for me.
 Wellbutrin (Not Working)
Caused suicidal ideations. Horrible drug for people with PTSD.
 Zoloft (Not Working)

 Sexual Abuse
I was sexually assaulted by my older brother when I was a child. My family was very shaming and abusive when I came out about the incest, trying to convince me that it was all in my head. About a year after my coming out about the incest as an adult, my perpetrator/brother developed terminal cancer and died. My family went on the warpath with me. It was horrible. Eventually, I went on to marry a sex addict who exposed me to some pretty shaming and abusive things.
Treatments
 Psychotherapy (Somewhat Helpful)
I was dissociative for most of the therapy, so, it didn't really work. I have severe PTSD.
 Talking (Working / Worked)
I find that sharing with safe people makes all the difference.

 Depression
  Clinical (Major) Depression
Depression tied into my PTSD cycle.
Treatments
 Celexa (Not Working)
The side effects were unacceptable and actually contributed to my depression, so, I came off it.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Too Soon To Tell)
Mindful CBT...uses meditation and yoga to enhance healing.
 inderalpropranolol (Working / Worked)
Helps with anxiety and curbs PTSD symptoms which can trigger depression.
 Meditation (Somewhat Helpful)
 Positive Thinking (Working / Worked)
 Psychotherapy (Working / Worked)
 Repeating mantras. (Somewhat Helpful)
I'm trying to replace negative messages with more positive and empowering ones. It's slow going, but I see the logic in it.
 Wellbutrin (Not Working)
Caused suicidal ideations.
 Writing (Working / Worked)
Very effective
