He really wanted all my stash tonight, but I thought I'd better find out if he is being fair or not...of course he is NOT paying $800+/ounce...but, I paid far less than what he paid me for the jewelry years ago so I am still ahead of the 8 ball.

How do I shut off my mind?

I never used to have this problem. I can be totally mentally and physically exhausted, head to bed, and I swear the minute my head hits that pillow my mind takes off and all the sudden can't sleep.  The worst part is that the thoughts consume me and generally involve work which as you know I am very unhappy at.  Happily, since I've decided to leave when I get back from my trip, the anxiety is far less, but it's still there.  Have been taking Ambien for several months now, but I really want to quit. I've heard conflicting stories that it can be addicting and I fear this.  I try to think happy thoughts and remember my all time favorite vacation down in Cabo when I was laying down on the plank on my tummy coming back from Deep Sea Fishing and having the dolphins swimming on either side of me as we headed back to shore only a  feet away, but I can't keep the positive thoughts in the forefront of my mind.

Anyone have any ideas?  Anyone else have this problem?

how about melatonin? i like a good book on audio that i've heard before going in the dark, specifically, The Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver, read by CJ Critt. also some old tapes I have of this really old woman talking about the Psalms. amazing woman, amazing images. stuff I've heard before, so it doesn't keep me up, the lights are off. and the tub.

also chamomile tea, and melatonin works great for me. check w/ your doc, but my friends been taking it for YEARS and she's had great sucess. I do need to go to bed on time to use it - or else I'm groggy.

my mind is being a total sadistic meanie to me tonight too. and I keep saying I'm signing off and I don't. because I'm lonely and my thoughts are not beng nice company tonight.

oh did I mention a long hot shower or more preferably a bath? jon stewart helps sometimes, or will&grace, I think they both come on at 11pm, so I can get in a routine of watching one or the other and then going to sleep. that works too. here, that's in about 11 minutes.

I'm with you on this. life is hard on the wrong people - yeah that's part of my toxic thoughts right now, so I'll change subject.

the evening breeze just showed up here, finally! better late than never! sweet night to you, hope we are both asleep soon~~~

my fave boring-a$$ topic to read on is some book on health tips or household hints, I'm talking the cheezy old books from the library. calming, mildly boring stuff. a good book is no help, I'll stay up all night with it.

I have tried Melatonin, and 5HTP as well as Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea, NOTHING works for me. I used to go to sleep with the TV on and set the sleep timer, but that doesn't work for me anymore either. Wonder if good ole Menopause has anything to do with this?

I have been using prescribed sleep medication (ambien) for over a year now following the separation. I too have been concerned about long term effects but had little choice based on my historical condition. I have been taking a half a pill for several weeks now to ween my body/mind off of them. I have even skipped some nights altogether. I think the key is routine. Use the bedroom for sex and sleep only. Go to bed at approximately the same time each night. I too have used the TV with timer on and that usually works for me (although a bad habit). Only suggestion I can think of is meditation with appropriate back drop music as you prepare for bed to eliminate all of the noise from the day. All else fails and you can't sleep, call me and we can chat because I am probably up too. :)

Trust me, I don't use the bedroom for sex damnit...hehe, and I try not to go to bed until I am ready to sleep. I think Meditation is the answer, gonna have to try it. Thanks John!

I use to have issue with going to sleep then waking up really early. Our minds get so full of stuff. I have taking on all these battles of emotions, anxiety, sleeplessness, stress and everything else that comes along with this without any forms of prescription. I turned to faith more and more that I and have found the abiltity to take on the things in a different light. I was dealing with a lot of guilt with so many things on so many levels that I had one service that allowed me to ask for forgiveness and really connected and that night I slept really good. Now I am not say this works for everyone but it did for me. I hope that you can find that one thing that will bring everything into balance.
