A big big hug for how well you are doing...
Hey girlfriend. I'm so sorry about all those post-op complications you endured. I'm glad you're better now and at home... It's a long road ahead, but trust the process, okay? I had gastric bypass surgery on July 16th and that first month sucked!!!! Just plain sucked! But literally, a month to the day, the dumping and discomfort disappeared for me! At this point, 7 weeks out, I eat by and large anything I want to --in very small amounts. The trick to the protein drinks is to drink them very slowly...sip for a while. But the ones in the can because the lactose in the ones you have to mix with milk can be a bit tough for your new pouch to handle. The Adkins Advantage, Slim Fast LOW CARB (optima has too much sugar and even the high protein has too much sugar in it!) and EAS protein drinks, and Myoplex protein drinks you can buy at any Walmart or grocery store. They are premixed and when cold, aren't half bad. They pack about 17 to 20 grams of protein--that will help you get the recommended amount of daily protein. I know this first few weeks is rough...and you wouldn't wish this crap on your worst enemy..but in time, as you learn your new body, you will learn pretty quickly how to eat, what to eat, the speed at which to eat, and how to drink. I'm 7 weeks out and think I have it pretty down. I haven't dumped in weeks!!!! If I can support you in any way, or if you need some suggestions for how to tolerate your foods/drinks, let me know. I would be glad to help in any way I can. Jessica RNY 7/16/07 Start: 320# Today: 284#!!!!
