So breastfeeding is getting a little better. He has latched on with the use of a nipple sheild...but it hurts like hell. The lactation consultant said it's not supposed to hurt, so I keep retrying his latch. So we're still doing bottles and breast both with breast milk though so he's getting the good stuff.
My mom left today and I'm very sad and scared. Now we have to do this alone wihtout someone doing our dishes and cooking for us...sigh...that was nice.

It sounds like you are doing so well. I had to use a nipple shield in the beginning. My Danny wouldn't take the breast right off the bat. I had to pump and give breast milk and formula until he was ready. Finally he latched on well. You'll get it. I remember when my mom left, I was upset. My hubby was home with me the first week, and then my mom came the second week, Mon thru Fri. She was great! When she left I was really scared too, but eventually we got a routine. The first 8 weeks are tough, but just savor the time, your baby will never be that small again. My parents live 50 minutes away, so I see them all the time. Just make sure you keep in contact with your friends and family. Email and phoning helped me, because I am a people person. It was hard for me, because he was born in February, I stayed in most of the time for the first 6 weeks, except for easter and trips to my parents and in-laws. Just try to sleep when the baby sleeps, housework can wait, and take out will be your best friend! Hang in there!

OH... breastfeeding. The necessary evil. LOL
I feel your pain- we did really well at first... then I don't know what happened! Sometimes she does great, sometimes it's a painful struggle for an hour or more! I think that lactation consultants and the breastfeeding support group are the greatest things... along with soothies and lanolin! :) hang in there, you're doing great things for that baby with every feeding!

Yipes. Well, you figure it out and I'll come to you for answers early next year... I'm sorry it's so painful, my friend!

Sounds like you and Ronan are figuring things out. It will get better and the little guy settles in to things. Enjoy every moment, you will do fantastic.:-)

Good luck with the BF'ing....I pumped for 2 weeks and then went to formula...they had my babies on bottles in the NICU, so they would go to the breast....I hear you on the mom front too...hope that is going well...this is my first week alone with no help too....

Good luck with breastfeeding. I have heard that is really sucks at first. Good for you for sticking with it and remember to not be too hard on yourself if it doesn't work out like you planned. I am so happy that your bundle of joy is finally here. I know you are going to be a fabulous mom and you will be fine on your own!!!!!
