    About Me

I am married (37 years), 3 sons, ages 36, 32 & 30 and 4 grandchildren (1 girl 3 boys). The only family members still living at home other than my husband and myself are our 2 little dogs, Jasmine and Cosmo. I am disabled due to a car accident 5 years ago which left me with severe back and neck problems, along with fibromylagia, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, TMJ, etc. but our two little furry friends give me a lot of company and love.

Thank you for your reply to my post. I saw my dad a few weeks before he died and I know I shouldnt feel guilt, The last thing I said to him was I love you! As for the ashes, my sister went to collect them yeasterday and me and my uncle will scatter the at the end of september in Scotland with his brothers ashes. I think thats what he would have wanted.

    • Close Bereavement
      Type: Loss of a Parent

My mother 85 years old was diagnosed with breast cancer January 2007. She had a masectomy Jan.15. Believe it or not she was still working full time on the 3pm to 11pm shift at the hosipital. She returned to work & everything was going great until Easter Sunday, when she thought she had a stomach virus. After taking her to the doctor the next day, he decided to do an ultrasound of her gallbladder. What came back was not gallstones but cancer lesions all through the liver. She died June 1, 2007.

      Treatments

      Prayer Working / Worked
This is the only thing that I think is working because my faith is very strong and I know my mother is now no longer in pain and is sitting and enjoying being with God.
      Crying Working / Worked
When I cry, it feels like I have taken a thousand tons off of my shoulders. Then I feel a sense of peace and calm, even if it is just for a little while.
      Grief Counseling Working / Worked
When I first starting going to the Grief Support Group, I didn't know if this was going to help me or not, but the more I go the more it is helping. Are there any side effects? Yes, sometimes it does get to thinking more about your loved one more, but not in a negative way.
      Keeping Busy Working / Worked
If I can stay occupied doing something it does help my mind not to constantly be focused on my mother.
      Music Somewhat Helpful
Soothing ocean sounds help me to relax along with contemporary christian music
      Pets Working / Worked
My great two little dogs help me a lot. They are not only with me constantly as a companion, but when I cry, they sense I am sad. They will get up in my lap and cuddle as if to say, "Don't cry, it's going to be ok and we are wth you"
      Prayer Working / Worked
This is the only thing that I think is working because my faith is very strong and I know my mother is now no longer in pain and is sitting and enjoying being with God.
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
At first I thought it was just to soon to tell, but now I see a difference from when I enter the office and when I leave. It is helping. I believe it is because I see a Director of Ministry, who cries along with me at times. She has told me that she will continue to walk with me through this journey. What a comfort to hear.
      Remembering Working / Worked
Remembering all the good things about your loved one is healthy. Yes, you may cry, but the wonderful memories you have can never be taken away from you. They are with you to make you smile and continue to enjoy forever.
    • Close Fibromyalgia

I was diagnoised with fibromyalgia 2004 after a car accident December 2003. Before the accident, I was living life to its fullest with family & working 40 hrs. a week. July of 2004, my condition became so bad, I filed for diability. After searching so long for a cure that had not only put me in a state of depression, & anixety & panic attacks, I stopped looking for this so called cure. I am now looking for ways to cope with this condition and begin living again in a different way.

      Treatments

      Acupressure Working / Worked
This works well, but when I was using this treatment, I would be sore for a few days afterwards.
      Acupuncture Working / Worked
THis has helped tremendously, but you do have to stick with it. I have been very fortunate that my insurance will pay 75% of my visits.
      Aqua Therapy Working / Worked
This was working well, but I had to stop in 2007 as I developed a sensitivity to chlorine.
      Cyclobenzaprine Not Working
Could not take. It made me feel too drugged and not able to function.
      Cymbalta Not Working
Could not take this drug or any other anti-depressant as it made my panic attacks worse.
      Effexor Not Working
Same the the Cymbalta.Could not take.
      Elavil Not Working
Same as Cymbalta and Effexor, could not take.
      Heat Working / Worked
Heat helps to sooth my muscles and I call it my best friend.
      Lyrica Not Working
Could not take. This drug not only made me exteremly tired but also I felt so druggged up. I even wrecked my mother's car while on this.
      Neurontin Not Working
Just didn't do anything for me, but I was only on 300 mg. which is on the low end.
      TENS Working / Worked
Works great. My pain speicalist has me wearing the TENS 24 hours most days.
      Ultram Somewhat Helpful
This drug took the edge off, but nothing to write home about.
      Vitamin B12 Working / Worked
This is helping so much with the neuropathy in my feet, with no side effects.
      Zanaflex Working / Worked
This helped with my night time muscle cramp and spasms, but I did dream a lot of weird things while taking it.
