    About Me

I'm disabled by FMS/CMP/IBS etc. On good days I still paint a bit & scrapbook. Did some damage to my back & while waiting for a MRI, I can't do much. On bad days I read-anything!everything! listen to music-everything! I can't walk as much as before so am grateful to be able to socialize at home to keep my spirits up.Love my back yard ! Doing my best with the help of my gods to remain positive & productive. "It's a great life if you don't weaken" my Grannie always said!

    Interests

music, books, foods & wines, my cat, my friends & decorating my house. I have a giant old tub in my new place so I can wallow in hot baths with lots of smelly oils & bubbles then sleep like a baby. Gotta have an interest in the world to maintain your brain power so I read newspapers & check the news on-line every morning. I am especially drawn to articles about medical research. I have hopes that one day fibro will be a disease of the past.

    • Close Fibromyalgia

FMS/MPS/IBS/migraine & whatever else goes on this list have disabled me. I haven't worked since 01/05 nor received any compensation.I try to remain positive. I've found that I have some limited success with meditation & mental imaging. I stretch & dance as often as I can throughout the day-picture this lunatic woman dragging one leg in a frenzied waltz with a stuffed animal! but it moves my mind and body & allows the tension to subside.

      Treatments

      Acupuncture Somewhat Helpful
The TCM doc told me there is no cure but some times accupuncture can relieve some of the symptoms. Had several treatments but it hurt way too much to go on.
      Duragesic Patch Working / Worked
I use it when all else fails. And by then I am so tired from being awake for a week that I go to bed for 3 days.
      Heat Working / Worked
I have a grain bag that gets heated in the micro-wave. The heat is moist & very hot. It helps. Wish I had a whole mattress of this stuff.
      Lyrica Considering
Pain clinic doctor prescribed this but the improvement has been so minor I wonder if it's worth taking another med. Dr. says if I stop I might find they were helpful.
      Marijuana Working / Worked
At wits' end I may take a toke that will relax me & allow my pain medication to do it's job. I guess it's an accessory.
      Meditation Somewhat Helpful
I did a 3 mo.course in 'mindful meditation'. We learned techniques to manage pain by making it our own & working to get through it as well as daily meditation routines.
      Morphine Working / Worked
Too too much. Hard on my stomach. Couldn't sleep. Didn't appreciably lower the pain.
    • Close Migraine Headaches

I've experienced migraine ever since I was a child. As a young adult in the real world, stress came into play & my headaches got more intense. Even now, after menopause, I still have frequent common, classic & vertiginous migraines and I'm sure a few others have slipped in. Hard to deal with in addition to fibromyalgia & MPS.

      Treatments

      Acupuncture Somewhat Helpful
but in order to be effective I had to go when the headache was coming on & that was just too painful.
      Amerge Not Working
Another triptan. They do nothing to help me.
Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
For years I avoided old cheddar & red wines. Now I have limited access to both with no pain.
      Fiorinol Somewhat Helpful
Worked for awhile and intermittently. I took it for about 3 years.
      Imitrex Not Working
I was in a test study for Imitrex - hypodermic, pill & nasal spray. None worked. I hesitated too long to use the needle. The pills worked 3/10. The spray not at all.
      Inderal Not Working
Very short lived trial of this one.
      Maxalt Not Working
Used the samples provided by the doctor. Same old-same old.
      Naproxen Somewhat Helpful
Worked only on the mildest type of headaches & that only for several months.
      Oxycodone Working / Worked
This seems to be the only drug that works for me. Why, then, would I abuse them? Seems my G.P. is the only one who realizes I need oxycodone for pain.
      Topamax Too Soon to Tell
Just started it a week ago. I've had 2 very mild migraines. So far I am experiencing fatigue but nothing I don't get from every other drug I have to take.
      Zomig Not Working
Tiptoe through the triptans! I am not the only lonely soul who show no improvement from the triptan drugs. All they give me are the side effects.
    • Open Arthritis

I was at the doctor's this week for something else & happened to ask about the teeny dents in my finger nails. She says they're a classic sign of arthritis. I already have fibromyalgia & other chronic pain issues so haven't noticed a difference. Also, treatment would be more of the same. My Dad had rheumatoid arthritis so I guess it was inevitable.

      Treatments

      Arthrotec Too Soon to Tell
My pain clinic doctor put me on this last Spring. I haven't been dilligent in taking it but will now.
      Ibuprofen Working / Worked
Advil for slight pain but I didn't & still don't know the source.
