Last night at 6:30 my heart started to go into atrial fibrillations. It does this once in a blue moon and usually within 15 seconds it beats normal again. But this time it kept doing it. I remember the last time this happened and it kept up and I had to go to the ER - it was about 8 years ago where they gave me an IV and it went to regular rhythm on it's own after a while. I'd sure hate to have to be shocked. My doctor told me at that time, if it happened again, to wait and see if it would go into normal rhythm within 30 minutes, if not go to the ER.
So I checked out with my few items at the grocery store and headed home. Dave was there and I told him what was going on. He took my blood pressure and it was around 146/88. Not bad. My rate was around 100. Previously when it happened I had a rate of 160 and bp of 200/120. That's when you start worrying about stroke. A heart attack isn't that much of a concern, it's having a stroke. So we left for the ER at 7pm after I packed my stuff and ended up waiting about 15 minutes for them to take my vitals. Since I wasn't in any immediate danger, I had to wait my turn. The place was packed. We sat there until 8:00 and all of a sudden I told Dave it's normal again. It switches that quickly. My Rx I take 3/day finally took affect. I told them I'd be glad to go home as I had a doctors appointment the next day with my family doctor anyway to check my bp. They said no and at 8:30 took me in for an EKG and verify I was going to stay in normal rhythm. The doctor told me to check with my doctor about possibly needing to be on cumidin (blood thinner) to prevent stroke. And said next time, take an additional pill and wait an hour unless it gets really fast and pb goes up. We got home at 9:45. Had a bowl of Fiber One with Skim Milk for supper and went to bed.
So I saw my doctor today and changed my bp meds from 3 down to 2 and told me to see my cardiologist which won't be until August. I see her again in 1 month. I'm just glad they didn't add another Rx to my pile of pills I take now, especially a blood thinner.
You know, I'm losing weight, working out 3/weeks, eating healthy, etc. and then this happens. Oh well, need to get more weight off I guess. I finally heard back from BCBS and they are reviewing my documents for approval for lap band surgery. Said it would take about another 3 weeks. I'm curious to see if the psychic picks up on this stuff at my meeting tomorrow over the phone.
BTW, I lost 4 pounds since last week at WW - just under 20 pounds since May 7.

Congratulations! I'd say that getting your bp meds reduced is another nsv(non-scale victory!) It's one of the effects I hope losing weight and exercising will have for me. So, though the trip to the ER wasn't fun, the outcome, a reduction in meds is certainly something to crow about, as if losing 4 lbs wasn't enough!

That sounds so scary! I've had my heart race a few times and I don't like it... glad you got yours figured out. And you will continue to improve with the meds and the awesome weight loss. Way to go!
