disc replacement Mood
Sunday, August 24, 2008 | A Breaking News story
i have a trip scheduled to california to see a specialist about my back.  if it goes well, insureance will reconsider the denial of my disc replacement surgery.  they said there could be two ways to get around the "experimental" label for the surgery--one was to wait 7 years for the efficacy studies--the other was to have multiple doctors suggest it.  that should be no problem.  anyway..i go sept, 15th. :) the pain has been nearly unbearable for the last several weeks so i am hopeful something can be done.  i've been trying just to pray and talk to Jesus when it gets bad--thanking him that "he is enough to get me through this" and thanking him that he understands pain even more than i do...also knowing it could be so much worse and being thankful for all i do have--but many times this week, i have just stopped and cried with the amount of pain i feel and the depth of it and how uncontrolable it can get...usually the meds will kick in and take the edge off, but other times it is just too much.  i am hopeful this surgery could help, though i will actually need two--one in my neck, one in my low back and i guess they can't be done at the same time---so it's not like this will be an instant cure, but at least there is some hope.  i should know a lot more in 3 weeks or so. :)

Dear Em, I really do hope that you can get the surgery. I'll be praying for you! And I'm very sorry that you're in so much pain. Keep praying, I know He'll hear you and help you. Please keep me updated! Much Love, Bam

Emma, keep at it with the insurance. Never give up.

You are precisely right; the game is to wear you down in hope you give up. And they're good at the game. As long as insurance can label a surgical procedure or a medication "experimental" they don't have to pay for it.

Here in the states the bottom line is profits. Insurance companies are a business, they view applicants as "profit" and "loss". If you represent loss they'll do all they can to find a reason not to pay. it's a very sad but real problem we face. Don't give up. Each time someone wins it makes it easier for the next guy
