I havent journaled in a few days but I have to tell you what happened. The day before thanksgiving I caught my house on fire! Normally that would be a terrible thing but it turned out to be awesome. No I am not brain damaged. first I'll tell you how the fire started then I'll explain. I had a skillet with grease in it on the back burner that I didnt want to throw away because it was still useable. i put some water on the front burner to make rice. I accidentally turned the back burner on instead of the front. Then I walked away to do some other stuff. The crazy thing is i was just a few yards from the stove but i had my back to it. when I turned around to go see if the water was boiling the flames were already above my head. i tried to turn the stove off but the knobs melted and the burner was still getting hotter and hotter. and the flame was getting higher. The house was filling with the thickest blackest smoke i have ever seen. I finally knew I had to get out. Somewhere along there I made one last attempt and used something to pull the skilled off the burner. The overhead fan was melting and the wall and cabinets were on fire by this time. I ran outside and called 911. I shouted to a neighbor who brought a fire extinguisher and put the fire out. If it had not been for him I would have lost the house. It would have only taken about 2 more minutes for the whole place to have gone up. I was sure that i had just become homeless. Here comes the awesome part. When the firemen came and I was outside several of my neighbors who I did not even know came and put their arms around me and showed me support and offered to help. One couple brought me slippers which was a life saver cause my feet were numb with cold-I had run out bare foot. I called my friends and they came over in a flash. when it was all over we went back in and the damage was contained mostly to the stove, cabinets and sheetrock. My brother and my pastor came over and a church member that i dont even know came over to inspect the damage. They were saying well lets get to work so we can get this operational for tomorrow. I was thinking they're crazy. I have not money. The stove is melted. the walls are burned and the place is covered with thick black soot and ashes. In a few minutes they were back with buckets scrubbing away. The pastor said he'd look for a stove. he was back within the hour with a brand new stove. Not new to me...brand new. my brother took the burnt cabinets down. someone brought a shop vac and ladders. someone who was a contractor says they have a kitchen remodel coming up and they will get the old cabinets from that house for me. You would never have believed it but by eleven pm we were chopping veggies and baking cornbread for thanksgiving. by morning the house no longer smelled of smoke but of onion and celery. I was overcome with an overwhelming sense of thankfulness. sometimes i think, God what are you doing to me. but all i could think this time was thank you God for showing me i am not alone in this world. You provide for me at all times and you love me. My wall is still charred but we have the stuff to get that done, and hopefully i will have new cabinets soon. i still have a place to live and I had the best thanksgiving ever. Then my son called and I had a nice chat with him. He voluntarily put himself into the drug treatment program. I am so proud of him. Overall it was a great day.

WOW! This is the true holiday spirit. How amazing. It's true there is still a lot of good and kind people in the world, we just sometimes have to look harder or it takes something like this to show us. I'm so glad you experienced such love and support. It reminds us all to be greatful and to also help others. We all should give and receieve in life. Wow! how cool is that, not the fire , the outcome! Thank you Jesus!!! I am happy for you. One more thing, the part that touched my heart so deeply was your last sentance in reguards to your son in rehab. I am happy for him and for you. May I please ask a favor of you, it wont take much of your time cause i can only imagine you are busy with all the stuff going on. Would you please pray for my daughter who is a really bad alcholic and she is trying to get into a residential rehab, one that is free. Maybe a keep me in your prayers also. SOMETIMES I DON'T THANK GOD ENOUGH FOR THE THINGS HE HAS DONE FOR ME AND THE TIMES THAT I FEEL THAT HE WAS THE ONE WHO SAVED ME MANY TIMES. Some times we forget that nothing is to big for God. What a special Thanksgiving this was for you and one I bet you will not forget for a long time. Isn't the power of God amazing?! Sometimes we think He's not listening or not even there, but He works through others to let us know He's here and will remain forever. I am so glad to know you were able to get such support at such a desperate time in your life. God sends us angels sometimes that are dressed as humans walking this earth helping lost souls or those in need. You definetetly had some angels with you on that day.
