"I wonder”
The rabbit said
"Where is the boy?"
But the boy was dead
In such a short while
His small heart would be sad
When he too learned the fate
Of the sweet fair-haired lad
The lad who had loved him
With the generous heart
Who'd loved all of the creatures
From the very start ... of his oh so very brief life
Some might believe
The boy died alone
On that dark, lonely road
Not far from home
But that's not the case
Loved ones were near
The squirrel was there
And so were the deer
And their poor hearts were breaking
Because they all knew
There wasn't a thing
That they could do
To save the boy
With the generous heart
The one who had loved them
From the very start... of his oh so very brief life
From far and wide
The animals came
Something was wrong
And they called out his name
But the boy did not answer
And the animals cried
As they learned one by one
That the boy had died
Because they knew that they would miss him so
That sweet fair-haired boy
With the generous heart
Who had loved them so much
From the very start... of his oh so very brief life
But that's not the end
For the creatures you see
Have powers far greater
Than you or than me
They captured his soul
As it spilled into the night
And they plucked out his spirit
From the beams of moonlight
And each one to the other
They pass his love down
So his heart can still be here
Though he is gone
To watch over his mom
Who held him so dear
So he'll always be with her
When there are animals near
Because they knew that she would miss him so
That sweet-fair haired boy
With the generous heart
We loved him so much
From the very start... of his oh so very brief life
