The Bowflex Jerks Mood
Sunday, April 20, 2008 | A Venting story

After seeing the n-th Bowflex commercial I have come to the realisation that all the people that they have gotten to do the commercials (assuming they actually are Bowflex users) are incredibly insufferable assholes.  I knew a few people throughout my years that were bodybuilders and the attitude seems endemic to them so maybe that's why the Bowflex people are like that.

Case in point: on the latest commercial they have some fuckwit-Beaver-Cleaver look-a-like (nee Brian Alvarez) going on about how great he is now that he has a 'Bowflex body'. At one point in the commercial he says "I gave all my fat clothes to my fat friends". I wonder if he has any friends left after a snide comment like that. One can only hope people like him don't breed and so propogate the genes that cause them to be such insensitive clods.

There was another Bowflex commercial on a couple years back where a different fuckhead makes mean-spirited comments about the Subway guy, Jerrod Whats-his-face. Some sort of comment about you don't see the Subway guy taking his shirt off in public. Considering the weight loss that Jerrod went thru and how he did it I found Bowflex's commercial guy a despicable cretin for stooping to such a low blow. It's only ok to lose weight if you go out and get a Bowflex, apparently. He's another case (along with B Alvarez) wherein forced sterilization might be a viable idea.

So where am I going with all this? I'm not really sure. I guess it's just pointing out yet another example where our society places an inordinate amount of value on looks alone.

I know exactly what you mean. I went from a size 0 literally b4 kids to a size 14 after kids. I have recently been working out and dieting and am now at a reasonable size 6. But I am so sick and tired of so much emphasis on weight. If I choose to eat like I like to and gain a few pounds I should not have to worry about being at a resturant and having people stare at me like omg why is she eating??? Todays society in general has to be the most shallow self centered people ever.

It's too bad the writers of those commercials don't know how stupid they come across to people that have intelligence, even if they can't spell or type. Unfortunately, all the bs those people say comes from the idiots that write the commercials. You can send emails to the makers of Bowflex, I suggest you do as it would be interesting to see what they say, and explain how stupid and arrogant those commercials are. I tend not to pay attention to most ads as they are written by people who will never use the product, just as the people pushing the product don't and probably will never use the product.
Writers that couldn't get their screenplays sold or their plays.

I love your sense of humor!! You are one funny guy Steven. You write very well. I never noticed that about the bowflex people - I just always felt inferior - thanks for the new view:)

There's a HUGE difference between taking the orders for the stuff and being the one that makes commercials like this. No fault to the former but tons go to the ladder.

Hey Steve, you ain't ugly so what the fuck do you care if they make fun of ugly people? You crack me up!

It isn't ugliness that's at issue. It's the whole "if you aren't physically fit and in top shape you are less than worthy" attitude that these commercials promote.

I have fallen prey to those beliefs as well. Not in my judgement of others, but of myself. It is that same mentality that has my 10 year old struggling with anorexia as well.
