Millie and Heinze are becoming friends!! YES!!!
Heinze had become depressed and was declining quickly. If I've said
this before - bear with me please. I could not stand to
see this happening to him.
That is why Millie is here and because I love puppies and dogs and cats - and horses -
pretty much anything that walks on 4 legs.
I thought I'd made a huge mistake because Heinze was withdrawing severely
after Milie arrived.
I was getting ready to pack Millie up and take her back
and I decided to first spend a few hours
with Heinze alone.
He really needed that. I wanted him to know he was still #1.
Not to make Millie unimportant but not
to make Heinze feel left out.
It worked. He was actuially a little frightened of her at first. He's older
than I realized. After we spent a few hours together I allowed
Millie to join us again and made her stay put while I patted Heinze.
She got it - that Heinze is not to come after her (she is very alpha) but she got it.
A pinch collar helped too.
Heinze is showing more interest in her - and tonight when she
tried to get on the bed he barked at her and backed
her down. This is good - I thought I'd ruined his self-esteem but he's going to be fine.
Thanks for reading this - I've been a tad weird about all of this. But Heinze is so important to me. He's been with me through thick and thin for 12 years and I
could not bear to let him down.
Am I an emotional mess or what?
Millie has found more play stuff. A role of bright orange duct tape has become her
favorite. She doesn't swallow it - she's just teething on it. She is
a character - when she comes running up the hill in my
backyard her ears flop and she bounces up and down.
This is going to be fun as long as it is ok with Heinze.
Millie is a Boxer/Chow mix. She is the same color as Heinze
and look like a Boxer - no Chow except a little purple on her
tongue. She's just bouncing around being happy.
Bless her little heart.
It seems like Heinze and Millie are
getting along now, so good to see.

I'm glad you are working this out. Older dogs are sensitive aren't they? And so are we. We love our old men to pieces. Millie sounds really cute, and they will work out a relationship. You have the best heart. I'm sorry I got to this entry a little late....
