Close Epilepsy & Seizures
I had a brain surgery in 2002 to remove an AVM in my occipital lobe (vision center). It's 6 years since the surgery and I still have frequent seizures. I've been on at least 7 or 8 types of meds over the years.
Treatments
- Ativan Somewhat Helpful
- Knocked me out but didn't really help with seizures.
- Dilantin Working / Worked
- They gave me dialantin after my first embolization. It had little effect in the way of warding off seizures.
- Keppra Working / Worked
- Keppra was probably the most effective drug I've taken over the last 6 years, however, I believe I was taking 3000mg/day + trileptol. I slept about 12 hours/day (not including my mid day nap).
- Lamictal Not Working
- Need a status option that says "did not work". Anyway, lamictal gave me a full body rash. Yuck!
- Surgery, Brain Working / Worked
- AVM resection (occipital lobe). Previous to the surgery I had 2 embolizations. I was 47 when I was diagnosed with an AVM and did not have seizures before, but after the first embo the seizures began and 6 years later, still continue.
- Topamax Not Working
- I honestly can't remember what side effect topamax had that forced me to get off it.
- Trileptal Working / Worked
- Took it along with Keppra. The combo was the most effective meds I've taken, unfortunately, they also turned me into a zombie. I slept quite a bit during that year.
