Journal Entry for October 27, 2007 Mood
Saturday, October 27, 2007
I've been finding everyone's journal entries so helpful, that I figured I should finally take the time to write myself! It will also give me a chance to keep track of all of the ups and downs and crazy symptoms! I also wanted to make my friends aware that you should listen to your body and that symptoms are not always straightforward! I last had labs the first week of August and the endo said to get them done again if I'm not feeling well.  Well, I should have listened to my body better because I have been feeling kind of crappy the last month or so and didn't go for labs! (I kept blaming my fatigue etc. on a cold that I had, pain from a car accident in Aug and traveling). Truthfully, I think I was a little bit scared that my hypER had gotten worse so I kept putting off getting the labs. Turns out I've become completely hypOthyroid! Ugh. My TSH went from less than .02 in Aug to 22!!!!  My free T4 is .53 (the lowest level should be .93) Yikes! I could have saved half of my hair that has fallen out and the 10 lbs that I've gained in the last few weeks (I now weigh the most I've weighed ever!) :( Not to mention I may have felt better too!  The only clear symptom of hypO that I had was the weight gain- the last time I started to become hypo in July it seemed a lot more clear- dead tired, no appetite etc. Otherwise, this time I had hair loss, eye irritation, and joint pain (all could be hypER or hypO!). The strange thing that kind of confused me was that my heart rate has stayed on the higher side (normally it is slow with hypO) The endo has decreased my methimaozle from 10mg to 5mg per day yesterday and I'm going to see him next week for follow-up. (I have gone from 20mg to 15mg to 10mg since my diagnosis in June). The good news is that the methimazole is working and the less I can take the better for my body and liver. :)  So, I guess the "moral" of my story is to make sure that you are listening to your body and getting labs done when you are not feeling quite right!

I'm so glad you went to have labs done. It's very important to have those done on a regular basis. It changes all the time. You should call the docs if you have any change or feel different. I lost a a patch of hair and didnt think of anything untill I went for a regular check up. There are great books out there to read and internet too. I use almost use it as my bible. It's your life and you want to make sure you dont suffur. You did the right thing. Take care of yourself. I'll be thinking about you.

Hi Michelle. Thanks so much for the message. This whole thing feels like a roller coster at times. And yes, I've learned my lesson. :) I hope all is well with you and take care. Stay warm-it is suddenly freezing!
