    About Me

Diagnosed with FM and RA in 5.07 by rhuematologist. Tested positive for (latent) TB 3.08. but treatment is now mandatory. I'm 54/divorced, still working full-time, not by choice but have no other means of other support and no family. Staff writer for a private college. I have to calculate every single task I do because of resulting pain and exhaustion. After months of negotiating and presenting doctors letters, employer allowed me one day a week to 'work at home' instead of 5 days commuting to office. What we had requested was a reduced work load, instead the work was increased. I honestly do not know how I will work until age 66 to obtain halfway decent retirement benefits.

    Interests

I adore cats, have lived with cats since childhood. Love to cook, bake, reading cookbooks is a peculiar relaxing hobby:-) Have traveled extensively, mostly throughout Middle East. Other interests include religions, philosophy, literature, music. ...and chocolate, my weakness.

I would like to tell you a little bit about me, ok. I worked for the city of San Diego, Calif. for 20 years in parks & recreation...then I wanted to move to were I was born, In Kansas. I got a job working for the city of Leawood, Ks. for about 2 years in parks & recreation. Then my bipolar condition became so bad I had to quit. I've been on diabilty since then...for nearly 10 years. Now I'm looking for part time employment in a less stresed job. I just hope I can do it. Right now I'm manic and have been so for 12 days now. I've been channeling myself into making new friends on DS. I've made 131 new friends in the last 12 days...WHEW!!! Being manic right now, it seems that I can't stop making new friends. I like doing this to fight of my lonliness and depression. I'll tell you a bit more about me later, ok. Clarence

    • Close Tuberculosis (TB)

Hi everyone I'm 54 yrs, female/NYC, diagnosed with latent TB 2.29.08 after 2 Mantoux tsts. I have rhuematoid arthritis and doc tested before putting me on Enbrel. She was shocked by 2 positives. I understood that anyone over age 34 was ineligible for treatment because of side effects, doc said CDC changed that, everyone positive has to take meds now.

      Treatments

      Isoniazid Working / Worked
Waiting to start medications in 3.08
      Vitamin B6 Working / Worked
Already on full B complex for rhuematoid arthritis.
    • Close Rheumatoid Arthritis

What a merry go round...I'm 54 and after yrs (at least 18) of chronic pain, finally diagnosed in 06 with rhumeatoid arthritis. In the course of finding diagnosis, tests also found a nasal tumor, had extensive emergency abdominal surgery 2.08 and 2 Mantoux tests showed me positive for TB (latent) so I need treatment for that before starting Enbrel. Its not like I havent been seeing and asking doctors why I am so fatigued, feverish, chills etc. tests come back negative most times.

      Treatments

      Enbrel Working / Worked
BEing treated first for latent TB.
      Folic Acid Working / Worked
Was on folic, taken off, rhuematologist said new studies show it interfers with absorption of other meds.
      Methotrexate Working / Worked
Can't figure out what metho is supposed to be doing. Doc said taking this and pred would kick start my immune system; they didnt and now she prescribed Enbrel, Trouble now is, I tested positive for TB, have to be treated first for latent TB.
      Prednisone Working / Worked
Worked great, gained 40 lbs, face swelled. Off prednisone for 2 months, face normal, 40 lbs wont budge.
      Ultram Working / Worked
Ultram worked for ab out 18 months after predisone its useless.
