Support Groups
Close Diabetes Type 2
I have been a diabetic since early 2001, and thus far have maintained my levels by diet and exercise alone. Sporadically over the years, I have lapsed in my self-care-- I become tired, depressed, resentful, and I stop doing what is right and healthy. I took a recent step in the right direction by joining a Diabetic Education class in my town, but I have only a few weeks of support there, and I'll be on my own again. I hope to find a safe and supportive environment here!
Treatments
- Eating Healthier Foods Working / Worked
- When I am dedicated to myself and my health and follow my program as thoroughly as I should, proper diet and sufficient exercise have always proven effective!

- Physical Exercise Working / Worked
Close Hypothyroidism
Dx'd with Hypothyroidism years ago, after almost a decade of uncontrollable weight gain. Now I still struggle to repair the damage from that time. I have wondered how much my mood swings over the years have been related to my thyroid disease!
Treatments
- Synthroid Working / Worked
- Seems to work fine... has for years! :)
- Physical Exercise Working / Worked
Open Diets & Weight Maintenance
I have struggled with weight my entire life. Even when I was perfectly proportionate, I was told I "you'd be so pretty if only you'd lose X pounds". My body image is totally skewed. Now I am working hard, eating less, exercising. having human flaws and failings as I go along! My weight has fluctuated wildly over the years. This is a long, frustrating path, but a healthy one that's well worth the time and trouble.
Treatments
- Eating Healthier Foods Somewhat Helpful
- Dancing Working / Worked
- for fun
- Physical Exercise Somewhat Helpful
Open Migraine Headaches
I have been suffering from Migraines for many years, but did not realize it. I figured it out after hearing about the most effective treatments for migraine (darkness, quiet, etc.) and realized that was what had been plaguing me. My sister now suffers from them, too. The migraines have worsened in recent months, to the point where I suddenly have to pull over, take meds and sleep for hours (head covered) until I can continue. My standby, Excedrin Migraine, isn't very effective on these!
Treatments
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- Imitrex Not Working
- I felt disoriented and in some ways worse than just having the migraine, which it did not really ease...
- Caffeine Working / Worked
- Green tea is a great source, plus it is full of other health benefits. Very effective, but people with Hypertension must be very cautious!
- Excedrin Working / Worked
- Has been effective. Caffeine is one of the active ingredients, along with acetominophen, so the same precautions for High BP and guidelines for Tylenol intake apply.
Open Cervical Cancer
Got a call yesterday that my pap smear showed abnormal cells and that I tested positive for HPV. I go in next week for a follow up. My mom died of cancer when she was young, so this diagnosis scares me more than I thought it ever would. Right now I am just trying to stay positive and hope for the best. I was fine this time last year, so I hope we have caught it early enough.
Open High Blood Pressure
Treatments
- Atenolol Working / Worked
- Felt AWFUL-- could not exercise vigorously-- I would turn blue during sparring matches.
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- Benicar Working / Worked
- Dropped BP, yes, but I felt like I was a 150 year old. Aching, weakness, etc. I felt so bad I thought I had caught Lyme Disease.
- Lisinopril/HCTZ Working / Worked
- had to increase the dosage... it helps some!
- Physical Exercise Working / Worked
- Always helps-- both short and long term.
