I am a born-again Christian woman, wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, friend, and co-worker. Close Common Variable Immunodeficiency
I was diagnosed with CVID in 2005 due to my lack of IgG subtype 3. Around the same time I was also diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2, osteoarthritis, and psoriatic arthritis. Throughout my life I have had 20+ surgeries ranging from ear tubes to breast reduction.
Treatments
- IVIG Not Working
- I received the IVIg once a month. I had headaches & a long down time after the procedure. 1st 2 months I felt like I was back in high school. Then it just quit working.
- IVIG Too Soon to Tell
- I've been on vivaglogin for 7 wks. I have 6 needle sites. I'm on 100ml dose 1x/week. I like it better than IVIG because I have awful veins, & 1 1/2 hrs is better than 4.
Close Arthritis
I have been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and osteoarthritis. I also have CVID, Type 2 diabetes, fibromyalgia, dystonia, TMJ, GERD, IBS, gout, and God only knows what else.
Treatments
- Anti-Inflammatory Diet Somewhat Helpful
- I am on Celebrex. I can't tell much of a difference. If I don't eat then my acid reflux goes into overdrive.
- Hydrocodone Somewhat Helpful
- Helps with the pain, but can't stand feeling loopy. I only take if I am really hurting.
- Duragesic Patch Somewhat Helpful
- Helps with pain, but causes hot flashes, and don't like the groggy feeling. Also, they never stay stuck for more than a day. I usually have to cover it in medical tape.
- Enbrel Too Soon to Tell
- I've been taking for 7 wks now. I have an immunodeficiency & take vivaglobin every Sat to boost my immune system, but I take Enbrel on Wed to suppress my immune system!?
- Methotrexate Not Working
- Took for several months. Did nothing but make my immune deficiency worse.
Open Diabetes Type 2
I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2 a little over a year ago (the end of 2005). My blood sugar was over 400 when I was finally diagnosed. During the same time I was diagnosed with CVID and psoriatic arthritis. I need to be on a steroid treatment for chronic inflammation, but steroids make my sugar level spike to dangerous levels. I haven't been able to work for about a year now, and can't afford the foods that I need to purchase for my diet. I feel like I am in a vicious cycle that has no end.
Treatments
- Avandia Not Working
- Blood sudar lowered some, but not enough. Stopped taking.
- Byetta Somewhat Helpful
- This worked OK, and I am still supposed to take it, but too expensive. Decreased my appetite.
- Glipizide Somewhat Helpful
- It has helped some, but increased my appetite a lot!
- Lantus Too Soon to Tell
- I started this about 2 months ago, but keep having to up the dose. It does keep me more level though.
- Metformin Somewhat Helpful
- OK. Don't take on an empty stomach it will cause serious nausea. Also, make sure you stay upright for at least 30 minutes after taking medication to avoid acid reflux.
Open Fibromyalgia
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia when I was 16. I feel like a 30 year old trapped in a 90 year old body. I would love to go 1 day without my shoulders drawn up to my ears, without hot coals burning my feet, without sweat pouring out like a faucet, and without the sound of "snap, crackle, pop" everytime I move.
Treatments
- Acupuncture Considering
- I think it might help, and am willing to try anything. Just can't afford it.
- Adderall Not Working
- Took a long time ago, so don't remember much about it. I just figured if it worked I'd still be taking it.
- Aqua Therapy Somewhat Helpful
- Would have been helpful if I could have afforded it, and if my other illnesses didn't prevent me from exercising.
- Cymbalta Not Working
- I didn't like this at all. What little sex drive I had was completely extinguished when I took this.
- Duragesic Patch Working / Worked
- I started with a 50, but felt horribly drugged! I'm now on a 25 & do get relief from pain. Still feel groggy, patch only sticks for a few hours due to excessive sweating.
- Effexor Not Working
- Took a long time ago, so don't remember much about it. I just figured if it worked I'd still be taking it.
- Elavil Not Working
- Took a long time ago, so don't remember much about it. I just figured if it worked I'd still be taking it.
Open Dystonia
I was diagnosed with dystonia in 2002 when my hands and face contorted and locked up causing excruciating pain. I was hospitalized for almost a week and put on IV ativan. Nothing worked except it subsided on its own. I still occasionally feel myself lockup, but nothing like in 2002.
Treatments
- Baclofen Somewhat Helpful
- I actually take baclofen for fibromyalgia and arthritis, but have noticed that I haven't locked up since I've been taking it.
- Ativan Not Working
- Given IV ativan when hospitalized in 2002. Caused memory loss & mood swings. It is listed as a medication I am allergic to so I don't ever have to go through that again!
