Cancel your credit card before you die

Brought to you by your wonderful Credit Card Company!

(Ain't computers great!)

Now some people are really stupid!!!! Be sure and cancel your credit cards
before you die. This is so priceless, and so easy to see happening especially
customer service being what it is today.

A lady died this past January, and Citibank billed her for February and
March for their annual service charges on her credit card, and added late
fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance had been $0.00 when
she died, but now somewhere around $60.00 was charged against the account.

A family member placed a call to Citibank. Here is the exchange:
Family Member: "I am calling to tell you she died back in January.
Citibank : "The account was never closed and the late fees and charges
still apply."
Family Member : "Maybe, you should turn it over to collections."
Citibank : "Since it is two months past due, it already has been."
Family Member : So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?"
Citibank : "Either report her account to frauds division or report her to
the credit bureau, maybe both!"
Family Member : "Do you think God will be mad at her?"
Citibank: "Excuse me?"
Family Member : "Did you just get what I was telling you - the part about
her being dead?"
Citibank : "Sir, you'll have to speak to my supervisor."
Supervisor gets on the phone:
Family Member : "I'm calling to tell you, she died back in January with a
$0 balance."
Citibank : "The account was never closed and late fees and charges still
apply."
Family Member : "You mean you want to collect from her estate?"
Citibank : (Stammer) "Are you her lawyer?"
Family Member : "No, I'm her great nephew." (Lawyer info was given)
Citibank: "Could you fax us a certificate of death?"
Family Member "Sure." (Fax number was given )
After they get the fax: Citibank : "Our system just isn't setup for death.
I don't know what more I can do to help."
Family Member : "Well, if you figure it out, great! If not, you could just
keep billing her. She won't care."
Citibank: "Well, the late fees and charges do still apply." (What is wrong
with these people?!?)
Family Member : "Would you like her new billing address?"
Citibank : "That might help."
Family Member : " Odessa Memorial Cemetery , Highway 129, Plot Number 69."
Citibank : "Sir, that's a cemetery!"
Family Member : "What do you do with dead people on your planet???"

Oh my goodness! Something like that happen to one of my friends. She knew a lady that lived next door then became her roommate whom was sick with cancer. With no family and only a handful of friends, then she passed away my friend notified this lady billing collector's and called each one of them to tell them the women died. The bills continue to come and they to applied interest. My friend had to move so that her roommate bills could no longer come to her address and get a new telephone number. That was the only way she could stop all the bill's coming to her address and the telephone calls from companies wanting to be paid. So my friend had to start a new life of her own after taking care of her sick friend. The companies just could not get it or just did not care, Oh! look at the cost of paper, stamps, etc. just for them to mail out to a dead person over the coarse of three or four months. Actually I believe the companies were wanting my friend to pay off the bills for the decease..."I don't think so" or would you??? When my mother died (we) the family brother and sisters had to pay off some of my mothers bills. I guess it would just depend....

some of that happened to me. Then my deceased wife got several credit card offers

Some folks don't get it that's for sure... Makes for funny stories....

Cara had a court date for January but she passed in October so obviously she didn't go......so they sent a letter to our house saying there was a warrant out for her arrest... I called and they started to give me a hard time... I finally got mad and told them the charges had been dropped. I got so mad at the hospital... hell as far as I'm concerned they helped kill her so I ain't doing a darn thing for them... anyway they call here and ask for Cara... I explain she died.... Not an I'm sorry... nothing... the lady says, 'well someone will need to pay these bills' I hung up on her but then called back and told them they better never call my house again... I was ready to go postal....

Mama told some bill collectors who threatened to see if they could arrange a meeting with my stepdad and his boss that if they managed it she'd sure like to be there to say hi to my stepdad as she hadn't seen him in a couple of years... not since he died matter of fact...

reminds me of a magazine company when I called to cancel my Moms subscription...they told me we could renew it for a reduced rate...Ummm...I don't think she is Interested !!

i can top that...when my grandmother died 14 years ago we received many calls from psychics wanting to talk to her. If they are psychics shouldn't they have known???
