    About Me

I am a single mother of a 6yr.old boy who was recently diagnosed with S.B.Occulta, and tethered cord syndrome. He had surgery to "detether" his spinal cord on April 30, 2007. We spent 3 weeks in the hospital.I am overwhelmed, exhausted & scared. Would like to hear from anyone whose child has had similar issues. He is also struggling with bladder& bowel incontinence. I need someone to talk to who understands what I am going through.

    Interests

I enjoy spending time with my daughter (14) and my son(6)going to Chuck E. Cheese, bowling, waterpark, and ANY amusement park! I have 2 cats named "Junior" & "Gypsy".

The surgery where they use the gaul bladder works for the pee as well. That surgery is called the mitrophinoff the child would insert a cathater into the opening to empty their bladder. We have not had that much trouble Emma having pee pee accidents because she is cathaderized every three to four hours and she takes medication to help regulate her bladder the medicine is called ditropan. Have they talked to you about what might help your son? We did not cath Emma for the first year and she was always always wet. She had horrible diaper rash. It wasn't until after she started having ongoing urinary tract infections that they started us with a cath routine. It was a little bit of an adjustment but now she does it by herself and it is just the way things work for her.

It is called a cecostomy, our urologist is the one that told us about it. There are two different types, one is a tube and the other they make out of the persons gaul bladder or apendix. We just had the tube one done. It sticks out of her side like a little button that opens up so we can flush fluid it through it. So basically we clean her bowell out every other day. It is not a bag that comes out of her side it flushes through her system and come out of her bottom like normal poop would. She has been in diapers her whole life and now she gets to wear underwear it has really been great for her self esteem. look it up on the web if you can't find somthing let me know and I will find the site for it. Sorry the untethering didn't work.
