General Goal Updates. Mood
Wednesday, August 20, 2008 | A General Update story

I haven't paid much attention to my goals as of late.  So here's an assessment and an update.

1.  "Lose 60 lbs."  Since I've started this goal, I've lost 23 lbs.!  Now THAT's progress.  Woo hoo!  Realizing that that's no small feat is helping me to STOP the bingeing I've been doing over the past few days.  I want to be healthy.  I want to reduce my risk for stroke.  I want to be free of diabetic symptoms.  I will keep losing one pound at a time.  I'm up a few pounds right now, but it's "that time of month" so I won't get bent out of shape over it.

2.  "Quit Smoking for good."  Well, I'm smoking again.  I had quit for 2 months.  Since I've come home from the hospital, I've started smoking like I never quit.  I will succeed again.

3.   Read 20 books this year.  I don't think that's realistic at this point unless I count the kids books, lol!  I've started 2 books that I need to finish.  Sorry friends, I will be spending more time reading which means a little less time here.  Frown.  Reading will help me to maintain and improve my cognitive abilities that were affected during my recent health problems.  I don't know how to revise a goal, but I think it's realistic to say that I will read 5 books by the end of the year.

4.  "Be more present"  What I mean by this is to really pay attention to the person I'm talking to as if that person is the only person who matters at the moment.  When I'm by myself that person is me.  When I'm with others, I'll be focused on the person I'm speaking to and I will really listen.  I've started to be more aware of this over the past couple of days.  It's, in it's own way, a way to reduce stress.  It helps me to remember more and it helps others to know that I really care.

5. "Get My Business Going."  I've dropped the ball on this.  I still have a dream of working from home so that I can return to being a stay at home mom.  Although at this point I'd be sad to leave my work, I still want to be home more.  The business I had been involved with was not a good match for me, so my goal at this point is to really think about what I can do from home.  I will brainstorm, get creative and come up with an idea by the end of August.

6.  "Walk 10,000 steps a day."  Well, I guess I better find my pedometer and wear it, huh?

Wow.  It was really refreshing to update and review my goals.  I'm inspired to get back on track.

I'm so thankful for my DS friends.  You have helped me the past few days in more ways than you will ever know.  I'm so different than I was a few days ago.  I have a new outlook and perspective.  I'm focusing on what I can do more than on what I can't do.  Sure I have a few more limitations than I did a month ago, but I still have gifts to share and I plan to do so!

P.S.  If you would like a dose of inspiration, please read my previous post about how the Olympics have inspired my family.
