Inspiring Words

The Olympics have inspired my entire family. Although my kids are young (7 and 4), they have caught on to the idea that they can reach deep inside themselves and accomplish great things. They've also discovered things that they really enjoy. My son has struggled with soccer and baseball, but has discovered track and field. We found a track and field group for kids and he has fallen in love. He is really good at it! It is so wonderful to watch him discover his gifts.
As for my daughter, she has wanted to dance, but hasn't had the grace the other girls have. She has now discovered gymnastics and tumbling. I was amazed that when her entire 3 foot body decided to do a headstand, she did it with very little faultering! There will be a tumbling class starting in September if there are enough instructors and I can't wait to see her get into it.
As for me. I'm inspired by Michael Phelps. Yes, I love swimming, but I'm inspired more than only with the sport. Michael Phelps takes any comment that either blatently or covertly states that it can't be done and he goes for it anyway. Michael Phelps has inspired me to stop telling myself that I can't do something. I have legitimate limitations. I will now choose to see them as challenges instead of impossibilites. I can work. I may not be able to work the same way I did before, but I can still serve others. I chose to be a social worker because I care deeply about other people. I will allow my care for others to fuel my abilites. I will focus on what I can do and not on what I can't do. As I develop this attitude, I will also be modeling it for my kids.
I will also choose to see failures and mistakes as learning opportunities. I will learn from them rather than allow them to define how I feel about myself.
My kids are fighting up a storm at the moment. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to intervene, but I am going to find a way to focus on the positives in the situation and help them to focus on the positive as well. I'm not going to yell or fix it for them. I'm going to lead them to a way to fix it for themselves.
It is going to be a good day!

I think its great that your family is watching the Olympcis together. Great family time. I also think its great how this has opened your kids eyes to things that they want to do and are achieving their dreams. And as for you young lady, you sound great. Your very positive and know what you want and I truly know that no one is going to be able to stop you from doing it. Good for you and Im just so proud of you. i love how the olympics continually inspire people, especially kids, to DO SOMETHING and to possibly set and reach a goal. My 10 year old niece wants DESPERATELY to compete in the 2016 olympics in gymanastics (she will be too young for 2012...damn rules!!!). I believe she can do it too! She is a beautiful gymnast...only 10 years old and a level 6! She works so hard...I would kill for her body! haha!
