    About Me

I am 20years old and currently studying a Bachelor of Applied Science in Disability Studies and Community Rehabilitation at Flinders University. I have SLE and with that I have Rheumatoid Arthritis which presents its challenges but as we all do we face them as they come, with God's help nothing is impossible!

    Interests

I am generally interested in most things but right now my main hobby is sign language which I am really enjoying learning at TAFE. I love music, my favourite artist is Michael Buble. I used to play clarinet but I fell ill and consequently was required to stop playing. I like watching pretty much all types of movies except scary ones (silly I know). I love my pet dogs, walking them, playing with them, everything really. I enjoy spending time with family and friends and I really love meeting new people and learning about them and their experiences.

    • Close Arthritis

I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of ten. It is mostly my fingers that are involved but also hip joint sand my jaw. I have had a long journey of trial and error with treatment but the main problem is that I have been on the medication for an extended period of time so we try to take me off or at least decrease the doseage which is sometimes ok and other times it can mean trouble, but I suppose it is just finding that balance.

      Treatments

      Anti-Inflammatory Diet Somewhat Helpful
I have been on an anti-inflammatroy diet which has shown a marked improvement but I still have a way to go.
      Prednisone Working / Worked
This has proven to be most effective in my case and we, my doctors and I, have began reducing my dosage.
      Prayer Working / Worked
I simply do not know where I would be without my prayer support group.
      Plaquenil Somewhat Helpful
I have been on Plaquenil for quite a few years now and some of my improvements have been equated to taking this treatments
    • Close Lupus

I was diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder at the age of ten but I had to wait until the age of fifteen to get a formal diagnosis of SLE. I also have nephritis. I have been on methylpred which has proven to be my most effective treatment so far.

      Treatments

      Plaquenil Working / Worked
      Prednisone Working / Worked
I have been on prednisone and we are finally able to wean me to a much lower doseage than I began. This has taken time and a bit of endurance but Im showing improvement
      Cortisone (Injection) Working / Worked
I have cortisone injections into joints whenever I am experiencing particular difficulty with this joint. Every one I have had has seemed to work so far :)
      Sleep Working / Worked
With such high fatigue levels sleep is definately required so I can continue on in my day and it helps me continue to do the tasks I am required to do.
      Vitamin D Working / Worked
