Close Alcoholism
Have been drinking for many years, it only became a problem in the last two years after family illness and other crises. No legal or work problems, but I've hurt my family and lost their respect. I pray every day for God to work through me and guide me down the right path.
Treatments
- 12 Step Program Working / Worked
- Working it now. AND it's working so far!
- AA Meetings Working / Worked
- Trying again and working harder, I'm meeting many friends and liking it more.
- Outpatient Treatment Program Working / Worked
- THis was in combination with Naltrexone. Worked for awhile.
- Prayer Working / Worked
- Helps if I do the work that goes along with it.
Close Anxiety
I have occasional anxiety attacks, sometimes I don't even know what the trigger is, or if there is one. I start shaking, heart races, feel lightheaded. Sometimes they just last a few minutes, other times hours. Taking Paxil now, which has helped reduced the frequency. I'm also attending AA and anxiety has been better since I stopped drinking.
Treatments
- Breathing Exercises Somewhat Helpful
- Paxil Working / Worked
- Better than Zanax.
- Positive Thinking Working / Worked
- It works when I concentrate on it...sometimes.
- Trazodone Working / Worked
- Helps with sleeplessness, I only take it occasionally. Causes nightmares.
- Xanax Somewhat Helpful
- Makes me goofy. (More so than I normally am.)
Open Panic Attacks

Open Depression
Type: Clinical (Major) DepressionI suffer from depression and anxiety, which I believe led to my heavy drinking (as opposed to occasional). I need support, but would like to support others too. Especially on my good days. :)
Treatments
- Meditation Working / Worked
- Paxil Working / Worked
- calms my nerves and takes the edge off of my anxiety
- Positive Thinking Working / Worked
- Psychotherapy Working / Worked
- wonderful, has helped a lot especially with trying to avoid the addiction. But I've got 2 therapists right now that don't completely agree on everything, so I have to figure it out.
- Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
- Very helpful, b/c I'm tired of hurting my family and friends with alcoholism, but sometimes they do not understandc the addiction aspect. "Just be strong and quit" some of them don't understand the disease...not sure I do.
- Trazodone Working / Worked
- Helps for sleep, but have to have 9 hours after I take it before I can get up and be functional.
- Writing Somewhat Helpful
- When I keep up with it, it does help me get my thoughts and feelings in order. Takes time though, which is in short supply in my life.
- Zoloft Too Soon to Tell
Open Menopause
i suffer from the hot flashes, mood swings, anxiety, and lack of concentration. The latter is the most disturbing to me, that & mood swings & dealing with family (I have a 13 yr old daughter going thru her own hormonal changes and a husband with some illnesses.) I try to avoid the alcohol b/c that's been a big problem, but the hormone things seem to increase my want for alcohol. AA, prayer, and some pastors at church have helped with the alcohol thing.
Treatments
- Black Cohosh Too Soon to Tell
- I think it helps, but too soon to tell.
- Estrogen Cream Somewhat Helpful
- I would like to know more about other's experiences with this.
- Progesterone Cream Somewhat Helpful
- would like to know more about others experiences with this.
- St. John\'s Wort Not Working
- I think Im allergic to it...have lots of allergies in addition to the premenopausal issues.
- Sex Therapy Working / Worked
- My female pastor recommended substituting sex for addictive behavior and it has helped. And of course my husband considers her to be a hero!! AND it has helped take my mind off of the addictive things so I believe it was good advice!!
Open Back Pain
I suffer from occasional back pain and muscle spasms. Chiropractor helps a lot, especially when my neck and back are out of alignment. Heat helps with the muscle spasms. I feel bad for anyone with the severe pain, mine is not so severe, but is sometimes disabling where I can't bend or lift.
Treatments
- Bedrest Somewhat Helpful
- Only if I'm totally laid up, which is not often. Hate to be laid up in bed. Probably need to get more sleep though. Since I got a Tempurpedit mattress and pillow it's been better. Mattress is wonderful!!!
- Chiropractic Adjustment Working / Worked
- Most of the time this is great. Also, my chiro has a rolling bed that works out the kinks in my back, and uses heat which helps, but I can do that at home. and I do.
- Heat Working / Worked
- Wonderful, takes time to be plugged into it though, or heat up the microwave pad.
- Ibuprofen Working / Worked
- sometimes
- Physical Therapy Somewhat Helpful
- Has helped with some of the muscle spasms.
- Relaxation Working / Worked
- yeah, if I could do it every day, I'd be doing better.
- Stretching Working / Worked
- always helps, when I can do it
