Journal Entry for November 14, 2007 Mood

Had my nap.  I don't know why, but the high today is 88 F or 31 C for my metric system friends.  WTH?  That is awfully bizarre weather for a day in mid November.  In other other parts of the country, it is probably already snowing.  LA weather still never fails to surprise me.  Just 3 days ago the hight was 65 F.

Earlier this year, in January, we had a week of hot weather- 92 F or so.

This is really something.

When most people think of Hollywood, CA, they think of lights, glitz, glamor, and fame- I'm guessing.  I did until a month ago.  I visited that place and saw lots of homeless people.  That's not something you'll see on TV.  They give off this illusion that it's all about movie stars, historical landmarks (Mann's Chinese Theater, Star walk of fame, etc.), but there are other facets to that place.  I personally don't like to go there b/c the only thing of interest to me is Hollywood Blvd, where you have those sites and the star walk of fame.  TONS of tourists.  Nothing special really, just a lot of hype, and traffic.

I probably should look up other sites of interest in that city, just in case.  I'm kinda not familar w/my own town.

its funny to see things from that perspective isnt it...hey check into DC Central Kitchen ( dont remember the url- google it though) and RObert Egger (robertegger.org)- very cool stuff with your interest in homelessness/and poverty, and helping. I like many of his ideas.

there's a great contrast between the beautiful skyline postcards of major cities and the reality of the people that live in nearby areas. apparently postcards of homeless people wouldn't sell as well. it's also weird that hollywood seems like a place with so many rich people. this is simplistic and i'm not suggesting to actually do it, but in theory if everyone pooled their money and divided it by the number of people and redistributed it, it's crazy to think that poverty would cease to exist. i remember hearing that the 7 richest people in the world could eliminate poverty/hunger for the entire world. it's sort of mind boggling to think about.
