  Katey, I am so happy that things are working out well for your mother and your father, too. He will get the rest and peace of mind that he needs knowing that he can sleep and not worry about her care. It is great that you can stop in to see her often, it helps when you are close by. I think your mother is probably enjoying all the people there, too. It's like having company and visitors all the time, which can be very good for her. It keeps her interested in things around her and her mind more active. I think the holidays will be "different", but you and your dad can work around it and still have the holidays together with your mom. It is all in how you set your mind...be positive and it will be good....smiles... Love you, and keep in touch! Susanne

  I am sorry to hear that your mom had to go into a special home. I know you wished it wasn't so, but it is inevitable. Unfortunately, Alzheimer's just doesn't let up and there really isn't anything that you can do to make it safe and good for her to stay home. It is too much for anyone to always be there watching, caring and dealing with the person who is having advanced stages of the disease. I know that your dad and you made the right decision. You really had no choice. It isn't safe for her or your dad to keep her at home. Your dad can visit her and she will adjust to being there. The staff will be able to handle her moods better and they can care for her 24/7 which was very hard on your dad to do for her. I have an aunt who has just moved to a home because of Alzheimer's and my dad, too, had to go into a home many years ago because of the disease. It was just too much for my mom to handle him at home. I worried that I would lose my mom from the strain of taking care of him. He lived three years at the home, and it was by far, the best decision my mom made for him. They were wonderful to him and my mother felt better once she go t used to the idea of him being there. I think he adjusted faster than she did to the move. Your mom will adjust to it, too. Just a hard decision to make for you, but necessary. I love you, and if you need to talk I am around. Susanne
