Journal Entry for October 24, 2007 Mood
Wednesday, October 24, 2007

Well it's day 17.   By most counts I have quit smoking.  I relapsed this weekend, but going to a bar (after 13 yrs) and watching a rock band that I really enjoyed, and went with one of my very best friends... proved too tempting.

However, I've smoked only 4 cigs since this weekend... and it's now Weds.  I ran out and didn't buy another pack, so maybe this is my turning point.

Either way - the whole quitting smoking journey has been a turrning point for me each and every day.  I'm trying to be as honest as I can about it and I am very pleased with how well I'm doing vs. how bad my relapses are LOL.

Kind words of friends has also helped immensely.

Not much on my mind right now, but I'm trying to stay busy.  One of my smoking "triggers" is here at the computer, so I've tried to "step away from the keyboard" a bit LOL

I'll be back though and thanks for all the hugs, messages and encouragement w/the quitting smoking thing.

Lots of love!!!!!!

The keyboard was the very thing that helped me with my quit on the quitters forum. You're doing fine, don't worry about the slip ups. They probably tasted very nasty eh? Keep on going and write to me before you buy another pack okay? Promise? Keep on doing it. You didn't smoke today and that's a miracle! Your honesty is refreshing, your gonna make it gal!

thanks for the kind words. I actually bought another pack but only smoked three. I just can't let it rest for some reason, and yes, they DO taste AND smell awful ;x

Every time I went back to smoking after quitting I felt driven to do it. This last time that I slipped, 90 days into my quit, I didn't continue to smoke. I just picked up where I'd left off. So long as the cigs are still tasting bad, the quit isn't gonna be as tough and somehow when you manage to get up after you've been knocked down, you seem to stand stronger.

yeah it's weird, i just feel compelled to smoke LOL. I do and I don't even make it more than half way thru the cig...

    Hopefully I'll get over that.

But thanks for all of your support on this, it helps :)

When I was writing the comment above I actually wrote "compelled" the first time, but then I changed it because I thought you might think I was exaggerating the feeling. I'm bummed that you have that feeling also, but validated that at least I'm not the only one.
Also, knowing that I overcame that urge might help you.
One of my friends recently quit because he said, "I knew if YOU quit smoking, anybody could do it!"
It will get to where you really don't want a cigarette. When people say, "Oh, I still want one from time to time" they mean like, "Oh, I still want a Rolls Royce from time to time." It doesn't have that flipped out kind of crazy urgency when you get past a certain point.

I have had a love/hate relationship with the ciggies for years. I know what you are going through. Good Luck!

    Thanks Guypaul and Siski.

Guy - I hear ya. I do have the rush to want to smoke one, but once I do... I'm so very disappointed.

31 days since my major change (can't call it a quit date yet). Haven't smoked more than 3 cigs a day compared to my 40 that I've smoked each day since the death of my hub in February.
