Today I am going for a check-up with my Rheumatologist. I am going to tell him that I can't take the pain anymore and that I think that I am ready to start meds for it. I am going to ask him to give me stronger pain meds though because the Tramidol just is not cutting the pain. I am nervous about all of this so I am making my boyfriend/best friend sit in the appointment with me. I guess you can say that I am not making him because he is more than willing. He has some questions about it too. I do have to say though that if it was not for your e-mails with advice I would not be taking the next step with meds. My question is why did my doctor leave out the info that RA happens because of an overactive immune system? He jsut said that when I get put on meds it will lower my immune system and I may need hospitalization to treat sicknesses and infections??? That really scared me! Well, wish me luck tonight. I hope that everything will be ok

your docotr never should have said that to you! For petes sake that is not true!!!!! Yes your immune system is lower, but not like that. Gosh, maybe you need a different doctor. I know a person can get colds easier, but just get the flu shpt this fall and you should be fine. AFter you get started on anti inflamatories and treated for the RA, you won't need tramadol for pain. All that does is cover up the problem, doesn't fix it, or put it in remission. If he puts you on methotrexate he better give you folic acid, and I don't mean a vitamin pill. Its a script all of its own. Take it everyday so you don't get anemic. Let me kow what he says, if he isn't doing the trick I will give you the name of my Rhuemy, he came in #3 in ST Louis this year. Your doctor whoever he is has just made me mad! You are so young and not be given the info you need. Scheez.... hugs to you Sandy
