About Me

I take one day at a time, it works for me!! I think if I look at the "whole big picture" it's too overwhelming & I would not be able to appreciate each day or the little things, -- like a "hug" from a friend. I was dx'd on the very last day of 2002 (12/31/02) We laugh about it now, because it was truly a terrible year, & when I tell people everything that happened to us that yr, (besides me being embarassed) people can't believe that that many awful things can happen in one yr. 1. My mother was dx'd w/Pick's disease (a dementia somewhat like Alzheimer's) 2. My father had a heartattack (I became the caregiver for both of them + working) 3. My husband had a heartattack (had a stent put in) 4. Our daughter - 14 at the time developed spinal menigitis was hospitalized (recovered, so we thought) 5. My husband lost his job (got another one but a $7800 pay cut) 6. They found 2 lesions on our daughters brain (didn't know what they were & if they were cancer) She spent 8 days in Children's Hosp. having just about every test imaginable done. We literally lived in her room. 7. They found her immune system had shut down because of the menigitis, so she had to have IVIG (immune cell replacemt therapy)this has to be done once a month or she will die!(the medicine cost $10, 000 for ea bottle, ea month) the hope is that is will eventually just kick back in. 8. My husband was laid off - not once but twice ! 9. Eight days before Christmas, my husband had another heartattack (this is #4) we thought we were going to loose him, but he hung in there for me :) 10. Then on 12/31/02 I was dx'd with MS, actually that was something that was just placed on the back burner, while we dealt with everything else. 11. The following yr. our daughter got sick again, MRI showed the lesions in the brain were growing & on the brain stem.....she could not even move her eyes without vomiting (a sign of a brain stem problem) otherwise you would never know she was even sick. We went down to Children's hosp again, more tests etc........she was in the hospital for 39 days!!!! We were with her the whole time, slept there etc, never left. The were a few days when we thought we were going to lose her, I remember literally sitting on the floor by her bed, w/my head on her bed & I slept that way. She would wake up & we would talk alittle bit it's very hard to talk w/your child & she wants to tell you what she wants at her funeral if she doesn't make it. I have never prayed so hard in my life.(her brothers were in college in this city, so they were there as much as they could )she had so many tests, & surgeries, inclding brain biospy, & lung biopsy. Never once complained. The one bright spot in the yr. - our grandson was born. He was just a ray of light in alot of darkness!!!!! I've learned to cherish the most minut things, like the sun shining, & the smile of my daughter & husband. Money isn't everything, doesn't make you happy, but it sure helps when you have a ton of medical bills & the insurance co. is telling you they won't pay for certain things!!! And friends and family are the most important next to God. Wouldn't be here if it wasn't for any of them :)

Interests

I work parttime in surgery. Love my job, but hate call. Love gardening, cooking, reading and doing anything creative - quilting, painting, floral arrang. Enjoy entertaining........our house is always full of people, love just chillin with whoever shows up, friends, family, friends of the kids (although only one is left at home, the kids & friends still show up :)
