Social Security Mood
Saturday, August 2, 2008 | An Anxious story

SS gave me a disc with all of my files on it, and all DR. coorespondence etc... to help with my appeal. It also proved that they did not review all of my medical, and seemed to down play what they did read. They did a so-called physical assessment that directly contradicts what my orthopedic Dr., instucted as far as my limitations go. They appear to be trying to obtain the cheapest diagnosises as quick as they can, without regards to the real medical problems I have.Contrary to my DR., they say my Emphysema is only moderate, and suggested I could do light duty. They totally ignored the severe anxiety disorder, and mood disorders, and any fibromyalgia symptoms. They focused solely on trying to prove the Emphysema was not severe enough. They clearly made my depression symptoms worse, by negating the truth. I've been suicidal in my thinking for three days now, and although not acting on those thoughts, or planning my own demise, I still feel helpless, and hopeless, and can't help but wonder if I even want to live like this any longer. The more in a funk I feel, the angrier I get.

I don't know what they call it down by you, but have you talked with anyone at the Dept of Workforce Development, or job service, or whatever it's called. They are supposed to help people with limitations find appropriate work. Just a thought. Maybe there is some thing that would fit.

I'm so very sorry to hear about this. You should definitely find another pulmonologist, and keep after that attorney.

Sending you prayers and hugs! I hope things are better soon. You deserve it. Hugs, Sue

I wonder just what criteria they use to determine the severity of emphysema...seems like it SHOULD be pretty standard amongst all the doctors private and SS.

You are certainly not alone in this...so many I have heard that have to go through the appeal process. Seems to me it should not be so difficult to get the help you need when you have paid into it for years and years, and with our economy the way it is, finding any kind of work is difficult at the moment, though it might be good for you mentally as a distraction from other worries.

Sometimes I think they want to deny (especially to younger people) ast they feel they will have to pay out for years and years with SS being in such a mess anyway.

Hang in there, though...you will get though it!!!

    Love,

    Joni

Almost everyone I have ever heard of getting disability have had to do it through the services of an attorney. I was fortunate and mine went right through. I was absolutely amazed. I had expected a long drawn out process. I was the out of the ordinary case though. The norm is to have to fight tooth and nail to get it. I am so sorry you are having to go through this. Definitely go to your mental health doctor and report this depression stuff before it does get out of hand and you act on it. Go ASAP. Besides....it'll only help document your case. Are you on any antideppressants or mood stabilizeers at all Lisa? YOu definitely should get on something. I take Celexa. I was crying every single day, but it has really helped me to regain control. Big Hugs honey. Let me know if I can help someway. JoAnn

Doctors Mood
Saturday, July 26, 2008 | A General Update story

Doctor informed me that he makes no opinions on Disability, says he is not a disability DR. Some pulmonologist he is!! No help there. He diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia symptoms, whatever that is, guess I'll look it up. Think I need a better DR.

Mom is out of the hospital and doing well, they gave her something to regulate her heartbeat and the meds are working fine.  As soon as the patch heals, they will put in another, and then she'll be breathing better and all her heart won't be pumping blood out of the holes.

Today I actually have no company for a change, all the free-loaders are gone fishing. Wish they would stay away. I guess Sid has too big a heart, and I just need my space to rest.

All the problems are on hold, and it's time to relax. I'm going to celebrate my 46th Birthday tomorrow, very quietly and peacefully. All of you take good care and have a great weekend!!

I agree, you need a better doctor! And you should have the fibromyalgia diagnosis verified by a rheumatologist. The big key to that diagnosis is whether or not you have the classic "tender points". I had a doctor who thought I had it at one time, but I never had all the classic symptoms, so I was never actually diagnosed. Good luck! Keep trying, too.

I hope you can have a relaxing and quiet birthday! You really deserve it! Love & hugs, Sue

Lisa, I am somewhat appalled at your pulmonolgist! Did you ask (demand even!) for your test results & all the documentation he must have? You need to find another doctor and take these with you!

I am no expert but fibromyalgia is not the same as COPD, and as I said, I am no expert but it would seem to me it would be a much harder disease to diagnose.

At any rate, I do hope it works out for you! Hang in there...you are a strong person.

And this being your birthday and all, light some candles in the bathroom, soak in a sweet smelling bubble bath and indulge yourself in all the ice cream and cake you want afterwards!!!

Many, many happy birthdays to you!!!!

    Joni
