So, yesterday, one of our two new rats gave birth (surprise!) to 14 babies! Obviously the pet store had allowed her to irresponsibly get pregnant. But what can you do?
We bought another cage for the momma and babies. Hopefully, we will be able to find homes for all of them with friends, family, and people through the internet. I was thinking of listing them on Pet Finder, if we can't find enough people to take them.
In four weeks, they'll be weened and the males will need to be split from the females (lest we repeat this little fiasco!). Depending on the number of males, we may need to buy yet another cage to keep the boys in.
So, anyone want some rats?
