Close Hearing Loss & Deafness
Type: Sensorineural (Severe)October 2006 I went deaf in one ear. Several visits to the doctors and told to 'inhale' or 'wait and see' the pressure and deafness became worse and worse, resulting in severe dizziness which made me sick and bed bound. Finally was sent to a specialist who thinks it might be meniures desease (is that how you spell it). Anyway, the hearing loss has got worse and worse,I am now deaf one side (there I have written it).

Hi, I lost my hearing last October, 2007, suddenly - I suddenly developed Menieres Desease - apparently I have the genes from my Mum. At first it was just the deafness - I had steroid injections into the ear - then it started....I never realised what tinitus was and its driving me mad. It gets louder and louder, I have to imagine I am in the jungle (dont laugh) just to get to sleep - it works for me - sometimes. I JUST WANT IT TO GO AWAY. I take Serc tablets
Open Meniere's Disease
October 2006 suddenly went deaf if left ear. Doctors told me to inhale steam!! Then the vertigo, sickness and the tinitus started with avengance. Then!!!!!my doctor sent me to a specialist - great ! He said I had menieres desease and for three weeks injected steriods directly into the ear - not nice and did nothing. I take SErc X3, water tablets - wear a hearing aid, but it doesnt help really apart from locating sound - I am a teacher so I needed that. My Mum had menieres - so its hereditary
Treatments
- Low Salt Diet Working / Worked
- Not sure - I love salt and seems to crave it more now as I try to elimiate it from the diet.
- Methotrexate Working / Worked
- 12th October, 2007. Saw an immuniologist yesterday - they have looked at my 'bloods' and am putting me on this to see if it can save the hearing in my 'good' ear. still on 50 mg of steriods too - but reducing it to 40 mg for next week. First dose of methotrexate is low only 2.5 x 3 - then after blood tests next friday they will decide on the dose. Also three days after each dose I have to take folic acid.
Open Thyroid Cancer
Type: Anaplastic CarcinomaHelp - I am a DS member usually focused just on me - I am deaf! But this is about my mother in law - in September she had a sore throat/felt like a lump. Doctor sent her to hospital, specialist said it was nothing. She got worse, went back to doctor who sent her for a scan then a biopsey. Last weekend she was here with us - Tuesday she went for more tests - was admitted to hospital and now just days later they have diagnosed Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer - have said its inoperable.
