Have you ever taken a cigarette and just really looked at it. I took one and tore it into pieces. It was just a bit of tobacco and paper and a filter. Once I realized that most of the pain of quitting was mental it was pretty easy to let go. I mean the craving only lasted a moment and if I took a couple of deep breaths the feeling past. If you get all worked up and feel you just must have that smoke then go and drink a glass of water or tell yourself you will have one later. I took Chantix and I don't care what anyone says the few symptoms I did suffer was well worth me losing the desire for smoking. You can do this. Just don't let the cigarettes have that much power over you!

Cigarette's are used as a stress reliever. We tend to think if we have a smoke it will decrease our stress. But in fact it does make it worse with all the added chemicals. When one has done something 12 times they have trained the brain this is normal. And becomes habit forming. If you can find another stress reliever and don't think of the cigarette as a stress reliever, but you really have to want to quit. And you must quit for yourself no one else. It is a difficult thing to do, but with a lot of prayer and determination it can be done. And when one slips, it's ok, start again on the path you chose. We are only human, we make mistakes. It's alright to make mistakes. Take care. Jan.

I smoked a pack a day for 15 years. I just thought of cancer, black and ugly lungs. I stopped one cig. at a time. I made rules like I won't smoke in the car and I won't smoke in the house, so on. I know you can do this. I put a pack in the freezer for an emergancy, I had it there for 5 years. Then I threw it away. DD

Trish, if you were in that much pain, smoking was most likely the least destruction things you could have done. Quitting anything, is a one day at a time battle. Just hang in there, you will make it..

Out of sight out of mind does work to some degree. Love fades when the one loved in not around. As your love for your Lord increases, your love for the smokes WILL fade, but not overnite!!! I'm 61/2 mos and holding..........!

Its so hard to stop smoking, i really understand.
I quit a few years ago now and the only way i could do it was with nicotine patches and a visit to the GP weekly. It worked and i havent looked back.
Try not to be too hard on yourself, today is a new day!
    xx

The first thing you should think about, is the fact that you are God's vessel, and you would never want to put any toxins into God's vessel, you want to keep it pure and untainted. And the second thing you should think about is the fact that you love to breathe. Now can you imagine not being able to breathe, cuz they have had to put a hole in your neck from smoking. Next you need to think about if you should have any children. You would need to stop for your pregnancy. If you quit now, you would not have to be worrying about it while you are pregnant. All these things helped me to quit. And I was smoking a pack and a half a day. I hope I did not offend anyone, and if I did I apologize.

I am an ex-smoker myself and I know how hard it can be to resist those smokes! I have a love-hate relationship with them still, and it has been a year since I've had one! The best thing to do is to tell yourself, "I may want a cigarrette, but I don't need one." Just do deep breathing exercises, even if you have to rush to the bathroom to do so. Just enjoy the feeling of breathing fresh clean air, and take some mouthwash with you. Every time you need a cigarrette, just rinse with some mouthwash and enjoy the fresh, clean feeling it gives you. It's going to take a while, unfortunately. The first three to six months are the hardest. I stil struggle, especially since almost all of my friends smoke. Next time you crave a cigarrette and you are near your computer, just send me an email and vent about it. Sometimes it helps to do that. It keeps the fingers and the mind busy.

    All my love,
    Krysta
