Types: Kidney (Renal)I had my first kidney transplant in 1999. It lasted 11 days. It was my mom's. My 2nd one (cadaveric) lasted 2 1/2 years. I got that one in 2000. In 2004 I got my 3rd one and it is still going strong. (knock on virtual wood) My kidneys failed due to MPGN. I also have antiphospholipid syndrome. I have had 2 heart attacks and 2 strokes. I have an implanted cardiac defribrillator now. My body has never seemed to recover from all of this. I can't walk very far without help.
Treatments
- Cellcept Working / Worked
- It worked, but I had GI problems with it so I know longer take it.
- Cyclosporine Working / Worked
- Same as cellcept. Also, I called this my "skunk pill" because of it's smell.
- Kidney Transplant Working / Worked
- I'm on my 3rd one, it's working so far. I received it in 2004.
- Prograf Working / Worked
- This is what I currently take and it is working great for me.
- Rapamune Working / Worked
- I took this at first but no longer do.
- Prednisone Working / Worked
- I HATE PREDNISONE! But alas I must take it. Its keeping my kidney working but I was admitted to ICU in June 07 with diabetic ketoacidosis. I was diagnosed with Steroidinduced Diabetes. Now I must take up to 4 shots a day of insulin. Thanks Prednisone....Also I have gained weight and have painful joints most likely due to the prednisone.
Open Diabetes Type 1
I am 36 years old. I was admitted to the ICU in June '07 with diabetic ketoacidosis. (BS 701) I was diagnosed w/steroid induced diabetes, caused by the predisone I take for a kidney transplant. (I have had 3 kidney transplants)
