Well...I'm 2 weeks post surgery now. Had a complete hysterectomy with lymph node sampling. Gyn/Onc surgeon said I have Stage 3A uterine cancer. It had traveled up the tube into the ovary and I had loose CA cells in abdomen, but all the lymph nodes he removed were clear. Got the staples out yesterday & we talked some about starting chemo next week. I'll go back this afternoon to talk with the nurse educator about chemo & decide whether I want to participate in a clicnical trial.
I've been doing much better than I expected after the surgery, and have felt really positive until reading that one of the chemo drugs lists as a 'likely' side effect numbness in hands (peripheral neuropathy) which may or may not be permanent. Also listed deafness as a possibility. I've had hope of recovering from whatever treatment came my way, but that's not guaranteed.
Need to talk to my friend in Nashville who had hysterectomy, chemo & radiation a couple of years ago. She has the numbness & I want to hear more about how it developed.
Well--enough 'blah' for today...Karen

I am so sory to hear it was stage 3. What a bummer. The chemo and radiation side effects for me at least were more scary than having cancer. With all the racket that goes on around my house a little deafness might just come in handy. I already have some numbness in my hands and I've never had chemo or radiation treatments. What if you stop the radiation and chemo the second you show any sign of symptoms will that keep them from getting any worse? As for clinical trials, be very careful to read every word before you sign on. Who am I to give advice? Taking the ostritch approach is my cop out.
Just hang in there, and I will send prayers and anything else that will help you get through this so you can return to the happy healthy you. I am also sending one hug for each staple and a giant hug for your bravery. Bearcat
