I am the Mom of a 13 year old girl with atypical absense seizures starting at age 4 and now has started with some myoclonic symptoms. We just changed meds. from depakote to zonegram. So far seems to be doing ok. Still has some myoclonic jerks, but not as frequent, however, attention issues are worse. Doesn't quite seem like an absence seizure, yet very hard to get attention. Also, diagnosed with LD's, dyslexia, severe ADD, processing disorder, memory retention disorder, sleep disorder.

      Treatments

      Depakote Considering
worked on absence seizures since age 4. Has worked great from age 4 till now. Just changed meds b/c of myoclonic jerks, but eeg still shows some absense going on.
      Melatonin Working / Worked
Take at PM for sleep. Causes bad dreams, but helps her to fall asleep. Does not stay asleep most nights.
      Zonegran Working / Worked
working for myoclonic, but absence seems to be coming back.
