Sleep Obsessions Mood
Friday, May 16, 2008

I have made Kynzie's sleep patterns my new obsession.  I've read just about every sleep book on the market, but have ended up relying more on my intuition.  I just don't think sleep training will work for my child.  I have spent 2 weeks trying to get her to nap in her crib.  She generally does fine, as long as I put her down in a deep sleep.  I've tried the drowsy thing and ended up spending 1.5 hours next to her crib as she gradually became more awake.  It doesn't work for her (I've heard this is generally true of high-needs babies).  I am also sick and tired of the pacifier.  She craves it, and often won't sleep without it, but she can't sem to keep it in her mouth and cries as soon as it falls out.  It has made naps and nighttime very difficult.  I have tried several kinds, but always end up back with the ever-faithful MAM.  She might just be spiting it out because she can't get a good suction or because she can't breathe well through her nose.

We are hoping to start putting her down in her crib at night next week.  I am hoping that it miraculously helps her sleep longer at night.  I wonder if she wakes because I'm in the room.  Also, she is generally congested, and I think the dogs and down comforter in our room may be to blame.  The dogs are not allowed in her room.

Aaagh!  This Mommy thing is hard work!!

Does she sleep at night for you? 2 of my 3 kids have been terrible nappers but thankfully did well at night after the first month for Luke and after the first 2 months for Ben. The same 2 were/are always congested. I don't know why. My older son outgrew the congestion thing and doesn't seem to suffer from allergies, but time will tell w/ Ben. Our ped said it was normal for him to be congested.?? Yes, being a mommy definitely has its hard moments, especially when we are sleep deprived!! But this precious time will be over soon, so when you can, enjoy it.

Oh you'll get it down soon enough. I think you are right in listening to yourself and you child... books are great but every child is soooo different. I guess I just was lucky once Noah DID start sleeping he has been great at it. I can put him to sleep in his crib drousy and even awake and he'll fall asleep, but then my sister daughter wont sleep worth nothing. Hope Kynzie starts sleeping GREAT for you soon!!
