When I'm not slaving away at my dead end job as a data entrist/file clerk, I'm an artist and a dreamer. I love to read, draw, paint, knit/crochet, and do anything that's creative in general. I feel your pain with your eczema. I have Atopic Dermatitis as well and it's all over my body, inluding my face. I read your journal entry about your date... It's good to know there are at least SOME decent guys out there... :-)

I have had eczema my whole life, i'm 48 now, and this last 6 months has been hell. I know well the cycle of the horrible flakiness (on my face especially) and then one day GREAT skin, then back to the cycle. Good luck with your new friend, luckily my husband is very sympathetic towards me, because he sees what i go through, i know how embarrassing it can be.

Close Eczema
I have severe atopic dermatitus since I was about 5. I also suffer from allergies and asthma. It covers my face, neck, chest, stomach, the inside of my elbows, hands, and the back of my knees. It's extremely painful, but mostly I'm embarassed by the disfigurement.
Treatments
- Hydrocortisone Somewhat Helpful
- Works in the short term to clear things up, but in the long term it has lead to skin thinning and degeneration.
- Meditation Working / Worked
- Helps to manage stress and depression. I believe the state of calm promotes over all wellness.
- Protopic Somewhat Helpful
- Cleared up some of the flaking, but there was still redness, irritation, and itching. It burned slightly too, long after I'd initially put it on.
Close Asthma
Type: Adult AsthmaMy asthma is generally triggered by the the presence of aero-allergens like dustmites, animal dander, etc., stress, or over-exertion. Generally, it's pretty mild.
Treatments
- Albuterol Working / Worked
- It works great as a recue inhaler; I feel a little jittery afterward.
Open Food Allergies
Type of allergy: Other NutsI'm allergic to some types of fish (mostly white fish) and tree nuts (walnuts and pecans). Fish makes me break out into hives and also causes asphyxiation. Tree nuts just make me vomit. I've had some accidental mishaps, and have almost ended up in the emergency room a couple times.
Treatments

- I'd really like to try this, but I don't have insurance.
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- I recently became a vegetarian, so that defeinitely helps me avoid eating fish! And I'm just careful to read ingredients when it comes to tree nuts.
- EpiPen Too Soon to Tell
- I have an EpiPen, but I haven't tried it yet.
Open Environmental Allergies
Type of allergy: OtherI'm allergic to EVERYTHING. Pollen, mold, grass, animal dander, cockroach dander (didn't know this existed, but I tested positive for it!), and dust mites. I'd also include pollution and chemicals in this, but they weren't part of the allergy test panel. Symptoms include sneezing, runny nose, itchy, watery eyes, and triggers eczema flare ups and asthma attacks.
Treatments
- Allegra Somewhat Helpful
- It didn't clear up all the symptoms, I still sneezed occasionally and still had problems related to eczema.
- Allergy Shots Considering
- I want to try the shot, but I don't have insurance.
- Flonase Working / Worked
- Didn't really help my symptoms at all.
- Nasonex Not Working
- Didn't really help my symptoms at all.
- Zyrtec Somewhat Helpful
- It didn't clear up all the symptoms, I still sneezed occasionally and still had problems related to eczema.
- Benadryl Working / Worked
- It again didnt knock out all my symptoms but it was a little more helpful and blocking the allergic triggers of eczema.
Open Depression
Type: Clinical (Major) DepressionI've been depressed since I was 9. I got teased a lot for being overweight. In 2001 I was hospitalized because I tried to commit suicide. I still struggle with depression, but I'm doing better than I was.
Treatments
- Meditation Working / Worked
- This seems to help keep the depression at bay and improve overall well being.
- Positive Thinking Working / Worked
- I know it sounds overly simple, but the only permanent way out of depression is to make up your mind to be happy and break the cycle of negative thinking.
- Prozac Not Working
- This was the first medication I ever tried. It completely killed my sex drive, muted all my emotions (including happiness), and increased my suicidal thoughts.
- Psychotherapy Working / Worked
- I recommend trying therapy before drugs. Sometimes all you need is to be able to talk to someone to get through the hard times.
- Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
- Where would we be without love? I think this is the only reason I've made it through.
- Wellbutrin Not Working
- Same results as Prozac.
- Writing Somewhat Helpful
- I'm not faithful enough to a journal for it to be effective.
- Zoloft Not Working
- Same results as Prozac.
- Art Working / Worked
- Creating art poetry etc. gives you a sense of accomplishment as well as an outlet for emotion.
